It would be pretty cool for monks to be a martial controller ... or what about divine? Not the blasting-lasers kind of divine like clerics, but sort of divinely gifted martial artists. Similar to a paladin, but ... different.

That was probably the most vague thought I've had all day, and I apologize for that. But if they went for that and could pull it off, I would be impressed. I think it'd be pretty cool.

Perhaps they'd do a lot of throwing people around? Effectively AOE, a lot of knocking prone. It definitely wouldn't be anything like the wizard though, that's for sure.
 

For me, monk should be a defender. Much of martial arts is about using your enemies attack against him, disarming/disabling him (often includes knocking prone). Specifically, styles like Akido and Jujitsu focus on the person coming at you, rather than you chasing him down.

personally, I'd like to take the suggested options and give them to the fighter class as an optional build.
