New monsters in Special Edition MM?

I bought it, but only because it was 50% off. Same thing with MM IV. I would never have bought them otherwise. Unless they were 51% off or better, of course!

I have not bought the PH or DMG, because the errata is not in them. Even though they were also 50% off.

Where'd you snag them so cheaply from?

All three of the Special Edition books have the errata incorporated into them (I just double-checked the copies on my shelf).

However, the latest print run of the ordinary PH also has the errata included, as does the softcover version included in the Player's Kit., so you don't need to by the Special Edition just to get a more up-to-date PH. I'm guessing that the softcover version of the DMG included in the DM's Kit (due for release early next year) will also incorporate the errata.

They do? Darn! Wish I knew that.

I got the 50% off at my LGS' 10 year anniversary sale. He had EVERYTHING at 50% off, even comic books and mini's. I wish I had hundreds more to spend.

Yes. To check what printing a particular PH is, just look at the first page. Both the Special Edition and any ordinary hardcover PHs printed after October 2004 have "First printing: July 2003; Special Edition October 2004" just under the Wizards logo. The paperback version says "Original Hardcover Edition First Printing: July 2003; First Paperback Printing: June 2006." All of these editions have the errors fixed. (The original print run just says "First Printing: July 2003".)

Similarly, the corrected version of the DMG says "First Printing: July 2003, Special Edition: October 2005". I haven't yet seen an ordinary hardcover DMG that says this -- just the leatherbound one -- but I'm guessing that any new print runs of the plain hardcover would be this version too.

However, just to mess everything up, someone forgot to update the first page of the corrected Monster Manual, so both the original print run and the Special Edition version just say "First Printing: July 2003" :( . Although I don't think there has yet been an ordinary hardcover print run of the corrected MM, the easiest way to check if a copy includes the errata would be to turn to the Gibbering Mouther entry. In the first print run, the Mouther has "Engulf", the corrected version has "Swallow Whole".

Tree,

Nice savings and while Errata is nice, I like new stuff more. The leatherbounds just didn't feel all that justifiable in terms of me spending the money on it.

I bought the PHB SE at full price, and the DMG SE at half-price (as much as a regular DMG. I love sales).

Cheers!
