What do you all think of this item?

Priests (they save your soles)

Cost 3 gp. Weight 2 lbs

Priests are thick metal plates strapped to the bottom of the feet to protet against caltrops and the like.

When worn they give a +7 ac bonus vs caltrops, when wearing priests you gain a +2 to saves against "Spike Growth" and "Spike Stones" and take no damage on a successful save. However they are far from easy to wear. While wearing priests you cannot run or charge, and get a -5 penalty to move silently checks. Putting on or removing priests is a full-round action that provokes attacks of oppertunity.

I like it, very specific and creative items are one of the thigns that give the game flavour. Excelletn addition, got any other items?

Sounds OK.

I think you should give them a real name (Iron Protective Footwear or something) and just have 'priests' as a slang term for them. 'Priests' just sounds wrong when mentioned in the rules text.

Geoff.

I think perhaps another cost as well to have inserts you can place into boots an such. Perhaps an extra 1d2 (small), 1d3 (medium) points of subdual damage on stomp attacks is gained as well.

A penalty to balance is appropriate

I think the no run/charge is too severe. How about instead you can only run at 3x base speed.

This reminds me of that one kind of infantry that was designed to walk through mine fields. They have huge lead shoes, so if they stepped on a mine, they didn't die. However, they were so slow that snipers killed them rather quickly.
