I really do think Elan getting Thog on board for a prison break will be pretty easy.

Elan: Hey Thog, I'm going to break out of here. Want to come?
Thog: 'k, Not-Nale.

Thog is my hero

It's official. Thog is my new favorite character in the strip. It all started with the Thog like puppies and Majesty of the Gumdrop mountains schtick but this strip officially put him over the top.
The Nale nail not-Nale speech was beautiful (after the 3rd read anyway) and "Thog too pretty for jail", got me some rather odd looks around the office due to my raucous laughter.

Thog rocks!!!

Well, without Roy to do the thinking, Elan just might have to get his act together if he hopes to save Haley. I, for one, never quite saw him as being stupid.. ...Just prone to acting silly for the fun of it.

It would seem to me he's closer to "easily distracted" or childlike than stupid. But now he's got nothing but focus, so a modicum of intelligence shines through the fuzzy darkness.

Anybody know if Rich is a Babylon 5 fan?

I could easily be reading too much into it, but I can't help but wonder if the

"Can anyone hear me?"

"Thog hears you!"

exchange is an homage to a very similar exchange between Mollari and G'kar when trapped in a burning elevator.

I think it would be great if it were; I like hiding little quotes from my favorite sources in my own work, too. ;)

Doesn't 'Giant in the Playground' come from Babylon 5? I've never watched the show myself, but I remember reading that it did.

The phrase was used there, but I don't think it originated there (could be wrong, though), so I hadn't made the connection.

Ah, yes--to clarify, I meant I read in something Rich wrote that he took the name from the show to make his handle on WotC forums, which then became the name of his site. Otherwise I would never have known it was in the show ;)

Yes, Rich is a B5 fan. One of the cards in the OotS game is called "the comic is late," and it shows Rich with his wife watching TV, where he says something like "watching Babylon 5 is kind of working on the strip..."

I got a little of that sense as well...that it was something of a reference to that episode.
