New Prestige Class Questions (for UK and others)

My first reaction is that this is so cheesy I want to make a pizza out of it. I too want to make a magor artifact at 15th level!

As mentioned make it +1 spell level/2 or 3 levels.
Change the Prereq from 3rd level Arcane spells to just 3rd level.
Change Magus Staff at 10th level and replace it with Exp sharing. Allows a willing contributor to pay the exp cost of making the magic items.
Reduce skills to 4/lvl.
Reduce feat/special to at least 1/2 of what they are. Maybe by 1/3rd.

For higher level magic items -10% XP is nice but -25% cost is huge.

The skills are insane. A wizard class with base 6?! He'd probably get more points than the rogue. While the class list isn't that impressive, with so many skill points cross classing could be pretty effective.

As written, it's impossible to use Magus staff power. There is no price for the staff of the magi, therefore, it's impossible to get the base price of the staff.

I don't see what controling portals has to do with a class that manufactures items, but as one of Halaster's powers, it's probably pretty good (if you run into portals).

The class grants way, way too many bonus feats.

An effective 60% percent reduction in XP costs will pretty much enable the character to craft anything he wants if there's a market for magic - create cheap stuff for next to nothing, sell, repeat until you have the gold to make item X.

I'd probably cut the class to 5 levels, give 4 spell casting levels, 3 magical artisan feats, a skill focus feat in a craft skill, and some free magical item of X value or less. I don't see how focusing on creating items is ten level class when a straight wizard does it well enough. Concentration shouldn't be a requirement. Change Skill focus spell craft to skill focus in a craft skill. Require an additional craft skill. Require another item creation feat.

Thanks for all the help! After taking everything that was said into consideration, I believe I have modified this Prestige Class enough to be workable! I present it here now for you all!

Thanks to all the people who helped balance this innovative Prestige Class! Lemme know what you think! If there are any other adjustments to be made, let your opinions be known!

Dweomercrafter

Dweomercrafters are spellcasters who dedicate their life to the creation of items. They are fascinated by artifacts, relics, and magical items. They must often adventure to gain new lore on items as well as materials for creating items.

Hit Die: d4

Requirements
To qualify to become a Dweomercrafter, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Craft (weaponsmithing): 8 ranks
Craft (armorsmithing): 8 ranks
Craft (bowmaking): 8 ranks
Craft (blacksmithing): 8 ranks
Knowledge (arcana): 8 ranks
Spellcraft: 8 ranks
Feats: Craft Wondrous Item, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Skill Focus [Knowledge (arcana)]
Spells: Ability to prepare and cast spells of 3rd level or higher.

Class Skills
The Dweomercrafter’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Alchemy (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (Int), Profession (Wis), Scry (Int, exclusive skill), Spellcraft (Int)

Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier

Class Features
All the following are class feature of the Dweomercrafter prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Dweomercrafters gain no proficiency in any weapons, armor or with shields.

Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special Spells Per Day
1 +0 +0 +0 +2 Power Reduction
2 +1 +0 +0 +3 +1 of existing class
3 +1 +1 +1 +3 Magical Artisan (Craft Wondrous Item)
4 +2 +1 +1 +4 +1 of existing class
5 +2 +1 +1 +4 Magical Artisan (Craft Magic Arms and Armor)
6 +3 +2 +2 +5 +1 of existing class
7 +3 +2 +2 +5 Magical Artisan (Any)
8 +4 +2 +2 +6 +1 of existing class
9 +4 +3 +3 +6
10 +5 +3 +3 +7 Power Sharing +1 of existing class

Spells Per Day: When a new Dweomercrafter level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, metamagic or item creation feats, hit points beyond those he receives from the prestige class, and so on), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Dweomercrafter, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.
Power Reduction: When creating any item (wands, rings, constructs, etc.), the experience point cost is cut by 5%. This ability is always applied last.
Power Sharing: When creating any item using an item creation feat, the experience point cost may be shared by any other willing and uncompelled spellcaster with the same item creation feat.

The revised version seems a bit weak.

I would change the four Craft pre-requisite skills to 'any two Craft skills: 8 ranks'. Change the 'Craft Wondrous Item and Craft Arms and Armour' prerequisites to 'Any three Item Creation Feats or Magical Artisan'.

Change the Magical Artisan bonus feats all to 'Bonus Feat: Any Item Creation or Magical Artisan', and add another one at 9th level. (Also at 1st level if you weaken Power Reduction).

This makes it a bit more general. Many casters would take Wondrous, but not all would take A&A.

Power Reduction seems way too good. Reducing XP costs by 90% is way too good. I'd suggest no more than 5% per level.

Maybe 4 skill points?

Geoff.

zorlag

Since this is supposed to be master craftsman of magic items, he really needs access to 9th level spells. Give out 7 or 8 spellcasting levels throughout the class instead of the 4.

Small reductions on item creation costs are just gravy and aren't worth losing several levels of spellcasting ability and most importantly wish spell.

Giving up those high level spells is the cost of being able to crank out magic items compared to the average class.

For power sharing I think the person should just have something to contribute not have a required creation feat. So a monk without any creation feats could pay all the exp cost. This requires all contributors to be there the same 8 hours a day with the same limitations (no spell casting, fighting ect..)

Also consider creation time instead of 1/1000 day per GP of cost to 1/1250 and allow 2 potions or scrolls per day at first level with an additional 1 at 5th and 10th.
