New Ranger Paths

I'd like to make a new combat path for rangers in my game. My thought is to support spears and similar weapons, but I just couldn't get started. I'd like to avoid basics like Weapon Focus if at all possible.

The obvious choice for the 2nd level feat is Combat Reflexes. Are there any other good feats to give out on higher levels?

Does anyone have ideas for other paths?

A spear ranger, hm? Well, what're you using for books? Core rules only might be tough, 'cause there's not a lot to support reach weapons. (Interesting idea, though! I like alternate class paths.)
 

I have quite a collection of D&D books. The most feat-heavy ones, off the top of my head, are CW, PGF, ELH (though that won't help here), and the Draconomicon.

I'd love it if I could make it with just the core feats, but I understand that that's difficult.
 

I'm looking at something similar for my campaign coming up and was sure that I had read on a forum somewhere a few other combat styles, but I can't find them.

However I did find out that Quint Ranger from Mongoose does have a few more combat paths - spear, mounted and something else.

I am looking at spear, hunter and beastmaster as combat paths, but still have to decide what feats to use, esp the ones at 11th level.
 


For my Technomagic Campaign, the Federation Elven Rangers (who come from the technomagical civilization) have a choice of three paths:

TWO-WEAPON COMBAT (as is):
2ND: 2-weapon fighting
6TH: Improved 2-weapon fighting
11TH: Greater 2-weapon fighting

SNIPER:
2ND: Far Shot & Point Blank Shot
6TH: Improved Far Shot & Precise Shot
11TH: Improved Precise Shot

GUNMAN:
2ND: Rapid Shot & Gun Fu (allows using firearm while in threatened square without causing an Attack of Opportunity)
6TH: Many Shot (basically "double-tap" with firearm) OR Improved Burst Fire (from the ARSENAL book)
11TH: Improved Precise Shot

My rangers from the Wild only have the basic choices, at least until I see something else I really like.

I'd give Spring Attack at level 6 already. It's a must have for spearwielders and any fighterbuild would have it earlier.

Another one:
Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave. Not the typical spear thingie, but nice.
 

Hmmm... I'd also been thinking about adding something like this into my FR campaign of late. I've been tinkering with some ideas, but before I post anything, I'll see what others come up with...
 

For a spear style I would go with:

2nd- Combat Reflexes

6th- Hold the Line (from Complete Warrior, charging you provokes AoO)

11th- Reflex Set (Can't remember source... Netbook of Feats perhaps?? : Had Hold the Line as requisite and you can set your spear against a charge when doing AoO against charging opponents so you deal double damage)
