New respect for crossbows

In terms of weapons other than guns, what can you carry? What is the max length for a knife? Are blunt objects ever illegal? Canes, clubs, sticks etc. Anyone know?

hong - Newcastle (working at John Hunter hospital.)

As far as I can tell, crossbows are illegal here, even for hunting purposes, although one of the nurses were telling me that there are people who use them for wild pigs, as 'normal' rifle bullets won't stop them chasing you down unless you get a good head shot.

The comment made about this "not being America" was probably referring to the spate of school shootings which was occuring just prior to 9/11, not to the notion of America being a dangerous place.

Remember also that Bowling for Columbine has recently had a run here in Oz and just won an Academy Award, so it's high in people's minds.

That being said maybe when you have groups like "gangsta rappers" as a part of your popular culture and identity, some people are bound to get the wrong impression.

Pielorinho-
In answer to how you can roll 2-10 hit points damage, it works like this 1d10/2 (round up) = 1d5; roll 2d5 and you get 2-10.

In the US, it varies (considerably) from state to state, and sometimes city to city.

Here in Washington, I can apply for (and with my background, receive) a concealed carry permit.

In New Mexico, I can't get the CCP, but I can carry any handgun or non-military longarm I want, as long as it's "outside the belt"-- unconcealed.

I'm pretty sure that New York City and Chicago both have strict gun laws, and require a permit for any handgun-- and those permits are not easy to acquire.

As far as my opinions on gun laws-- this thread is already too political for these boards, so I'll stay quiet. Anyone who catches me on a more political forum knows quite well where I stand.

Edit: Only partially political, but removed whole thing per policy.

This is not the place for the discussion of the Constitution or how to interpret it or Constitutional law, or violence in America or any other political and potentially volitile.

If you want to discuss the power of a crossbow - then by all means - (heck I give it a nice knockdown die in my game) - but if people persist on bringing the right to bear arm and blh, blah, blah - I will close down this thread.

Thanks

Two Australian teenage girls were shot and wounded with a crossbow at their school on Thursday, with the arrow passing through the chest of one of the victims and into the legs of the other, an ambulance official said.

The girls were attacked by a teenage boy who was tackled as he then tried to light a petrol bomb, a witness told a Sydney radio station.

Does Iconoclast have kids?
