Dear lord. They are still playtesting important core mechanics?
I think this was recorded a while back and they are just showing it now. I mean, they are running 4th edition at D&D Experience at the end of February. And the books need to be completely done for sure in March which is about when they need to go to the printers.

I have a feeling that they might be tweaking small things now like the exact number of xp and that sort of thing and probably still writing some of the passages in the DMG on advice (things you don't really playtest, you just need to write up).

I'm not sure why they bother with these videos. The images are so dark as to be worthless, and it's just more annoying to have to load, watch, and listen to a video rather than just read a short blurb that says the same thing.

Because no matter how utterly useless multimedia actually as, someone is always convinced that its 'Teh wave of teh Future!' and has to be done. To the point that its more important to waste time and resources on these little things rather than getting 4e done. :(

More interestingly, sounds like DMG is still in flux somewhat an hasn't headed to printer
Le Rouse has stated that the DMG heads to typesetting in the middle of February; the PHB has already gone, and the MM goes roughly next week.

After it comes back from typesetting, there will be time for changes and error corrections before it goes to the printer.

I can't bring myself to click on the video links, but today's question is even more amusing.

What is being done to move D&D away from its undesirable stereotypes and create a new image?

That depends what you mean by undesirable stereotypes. We’re showing real life people playing D&D… such as we do.

If you’re talking about D&D art style, we believe we’ve gone a long way toward eradicating gender bias (i.e., "chainmail bikinis"), and giving it a more metropolitan feel with every ethnicity represented in our characters.

Was 'We're trying not to be sexist or racist anymore' really the answer the question was looking for?

To be fair, he does give an answer that actually relates to the question, it just doesn't appear in the text synopsis, and as usual it isn't very specific.

cheers

I gotta wonder about the effort that went into getting this video made and posted when all it essentially boiled down to, "Yes, there will be mechanics for that, but we're not giving specifics right now."

Actually, I've got a scoop there. Acording to an inside source, the mechanics are being kept secret because they are super-cool and are going to be dropped as a bombshell at the D&D experience. Apparently, the way it will work is that every time your character wins 10 straight social encounters, your name will be entered in a draw to win the Rouse's shirt.

Yes, THE shirt.
