D&D 5E New Scroll Questions: Warrior Champion can use Scrolls? - Scrolls of reaction spells ?

Unrolling and reading a scroll requires an Action.

However, how about this: you use your Action to read a scroll of Counterspell, and then you have Counterspell as a Readied Action.

If you use an Action to read your scroll of Unearthly Smite, and you then use your Reaction on an Attack of Opportunity, could the Smite apply to the AoO? (You might be relying on your bard ally, who sees you using the scroll and thus casts Dissonant Whispers.)

You use an Action to read a scroll of Expeditious Retreat. You then immediately get a bonus action Dash. On that round, your total movement is the same as using your regular action to Dash. On every subsequent round (for duration, limited by Concentration) you get an action + bonus action Dash, as if you'd cast the spell yourself.

If you used your Action before combat, that is, just before ambushing, the scroll might be well worth its cost.

I like the idea of a shield (physical, metal) with a slot in the back that can hold a Shield (scroll, paper) for reading quickly in case of magic missile. As it is a reaction spell, it can't require much speech - and therefore could be a very quick spell to read indeed.

Plus it lets you have the Eldritch Knight platoon with the commander shouting, "Shields up. SHIELD up!"
