4th level evocation
Casting time: 1 action
Components: Somatic, Verbal, material (1 pristine fiery yellow sapphire value 1500gp)
Duration: concentration up to 1 hour or until all warding runes are depleted.
You create 8 fiery warding runes that float around you, whenever a creature you can detect/sense within 15 feet of you makes any attack you may as a
reaction expend one of the warding runes to send a gout of flame towards him, the creature then has to make a dexterity saving throw. it takes 2d12 damage
on a failed saving throw or half as much on a successful one.
The material focus may also be shattered in the casting of the spell imparting one additional effect, that of the spell (havent decided, was thinking maybe investiture of fire from the players companion or the fireshield spell)
At higher levels: when you cast this spell at higher levels using a spell slot of 5th level or higher add 1 warding rune and may expend 1 additional rune per reaction per spell level above 4th.
this is for the most part my initial idea, would require some figuring out in exactly how i would want it to work. ideally i want to introduce this to my campaign somehow as a spell the players could aquire. what im wondering first and foremost if what your take is on this spell and if the spell level/damage numbers are feasible along with the cost of the material (which is quite high because of the secondary ability which i think might be cool if the party is in a really tight spot)
