D&D 5E New stuff?

That does lead to an interesting question though... what would be more preferable for people? A book that is ONLY Spelljammer with no Planescape (or a Planscape book with no Spelljammer) versus a book that combines Spelljamming with Sigil and the plane-hopping of Planescape into an amalgam of the two settings?

Is getting only one of the two settings for 5E preferable to getting both settings together but no longer "pure" per se?
I was (and am) a fan of Spelljammer, but was always left cold by Planescape.

So my preferences:
  1. Both separately.
  2. Spelljammer only.
  3. Planescape only.
  4. The hybrid option.

I bet for the hybrid option, and even we could see easter eggs in the pictures about potential crossovers with other titles (Star*Drive, Star Frontiers, Gamma World or even Transformers). Sigil is the right place for planar adventures with low-level PCs, but a lot of planes are very dangerous. Any solution? Demiplanes with softer traits. I have suggested some times in the past the Io's blood islands (councyl of wyrms/ Chris Perkins' Iomandra) to be a demiplane within the elemental limbo.

Maybe the elemental water plane is a compilation of annexed demiplanes, allowing enough homogeinity about light (for the seaweed), oxygen or sea pressure.

I'm 100% sure that they are not going to make a distinction between crystal spheres and planes like Theros and Eberron. They may not include Sigil, but I'm certain spelljammer ships will travel between planes in 5e.
But, they already have made the distinction between Spelljamminf between crystal spheres and Planar travel. Two separate things.

I can’t be sure that the lady of pain will have giff bodyguards, but I am pretty sure that it be will one thing for one multiverse.

Not that o dint believe you, I do. I just wanna see it. Gotta link/pointer?
Sure, no problem. Jeremy Crawford detailed the canon assumptions in this video about Eberron and Ravnica, including that Ravnica and Enerron are on the same Prime Material as every other world and can be reached by Spelljamming in the Phlogiston between Crystal Spheres (if you want to in your game, or not if you don't because the DM makes the cosmos, but that's the assumption that they are working off when making books)

Fair enough, but just remember that Crawford saying it in a video isn't "locked in" the same way it is if they had published written materials that spoke of Crystal Spheres etc. As far as I can tell, Spelljammer isn't directly mentioned in any D&D book for 5e…

I can launch my bet about one of the future "new-brand" settings.

I am not kidding. In January 1st of 2024, Tolkien's work will become public domain. Even if Disney wanted, they could produce their own cartoon.

Conan the Barbarian will be public domain in 2028 but you are free to create your own version of Hyrborea, only without those characters. Now it sounds very far, but when you are getting old you notice the time passes quicly.

* Planescape can be delayed because if after Baldur's Gate the next videogame will be a Planescape II maybe the plot could affect too much the lore of the setting.

So this is highly, HIGHLY unlikely. Theoretically, much of Tolkien's work enters public domain next year or the year after.... but you can bet that a bunch of folks will dispute that, including Tolkien's heirs themselves. So it's extremely unlikely any company is developing their own LotR property on the hope of being able to make something with public domain.

As for the article you linked, a better explanation is here; ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ Film and Gaming Rights Up for Sale (EXCLUSIVE)

Essentially, for the sale of more Tolkien IP this year, Amazon is still at the top of the list for purchasing them. They have plenty of cash, want it to bolster their already upcoming LotR entertainment, and... Bezos apparently is a super-nerd who just wants it.

They know that "hard" canon isn't really useful to them or users, but...they have included Spelljammer allusions in many places, and Planescape allusions in other places...but not Planesjammer, and they have continued to talk about the shared universe as he lays out here, consistently, for years.

I understand that some people don't want the phlogiston et al, but that is what WotC has been layign down, the Planejammer stuff is all fan speculation in spite of what WotC ahs said and put in books.
