New SW Products?

First, let me say that the following is just speculation.

I think that the reason there has been no new SWd20 SB's is simple:

WotC is putting the finishing touches on a new Core Rulebook.
Well, the only way to know for sure is to ask JD Wiker and he pulled a "no comment."

I find it disturbing they're doing a new core rulebook without him (on a contractual basis).

That's an... optimistic way of looking at things. I don't think it's very likely though - I know that if I was releasing a big updated core book, I'd want to drum up interest in it beforehand.

Aye, sadly I have to agree with this... :( I think the line is RIP. :(

If there's a new core rulebook--and I don't consider it unlikely--I would guess that it will be launched to coincide either with the new animated series or the 30th Anniversary.

Being optimistic, "no comment" could just as easily mean "I can't talk about it because it's not in the catalog yet and I'm under an NDA".

I'll say what others are saying: Hope for a Gen Con announcement, barring that, ask what the heck is up with the line (not that they'll say anything likely, but they might be able to elaborate a little). Making minis is not supporting the RPG when the minis themselves don't even have RPG stats or any tie-ins to the RPG other than it involving rolling a d20.

The most hopeful realistic scenario I can come up with is that Lucasfilm and WotC are renegotiating the licensing fees, they are able to announce a new core rulebook at Gen Con due out in the first quarter of 2006 to re-launch the line. Very few substantial changes, except errata inclusions, Episode III specific material, and new things revealed in Episode III (like Force Strike against living opponents apparently not giving a DSP, since Yoda did it, or at least a subdual option for FS that isn't Dark Side). The new book to be followed every few months with the Ultimate Battlestations that has been sitting around for a while, and the long awaited Clone Wars Sourcebook/Rise of the Empire Era Soucebook.

Until they say the line is dead and/or they lose the license, the game isn't dead, it's just in a hibernation trance.

Animated series? I haven't heard anything about an animated series, but I've heard plenty about a live action series that George Lucas himself has commented on.

Both are in development, but the animated series is due first. From this news story at TheForce.net, Lucas says "we're getting ready to go on the animated series, and then the live action will be, you know, a year or two later."
