D&D 5E New Unearthed Arcana: Heroes of Krynn Revisited

WotC's Jeremy Crawford has announced a new Unearthed Arcana article today with redesigns from the prior Heroes of Krynn UA based on feedback, and in the following video he discusses that feedback and what's in the article:
  • New iteration of Kender based on feedback survey, due to mixed response. This time is a back to basics, aiming to capture 1E AD&D fearlessness, curiosity and taunting skills. Delve into their origins from Gnomes in deep history.
  • Kender are no longer fey creatures who grab objects from the Feywild
  • Tweaked Feats from prior article
  • Tweaked Backgrounds from prior article
  • Brand new rule giving a list of free Feats for ANY Background
  • Free Feat rule for Level 4 for all characters that doesn't take the ASI away, based on a curated list
  • Reveals that in the Adventure, healing magic is already back.

Because they don't want to belong to the Knights of Solamnia? Or they're playing in a different setting?
Plus, as I mentioned before, the DM can always refluff it to another group or what not. The Knights of Tahksis can be an evil refluffed version of the Knights of Solamnia background that offers the same Squire Feats/Superiority Die prof score aspect just as well. The only change is in the name of the background.

I will admit though: WoTC was feeling hella generous with Squire of Solamnia's Superiority Die granting When I was thinking about homebrewing that all Martials can gain the use of Superiority Die, I was trying to figure out whether to base the number they had on half of their total Prof Score, or just let them have one or two and that's it. and they were stuck at using a D6 for it.
I can only assume that the one reason why they didn't do the usual "divide the amount of a resource you have by half your total Prof Score" was because, like I said, they are trying to hammer the fact in that it's a war everybody is fighting in. You can't bring your A-game for survival on one Superiority Die that is stuck at a D6. You need to hit hard and fight hard to live...................to die another day if your "lucky."
