Bane of the Barsarâth
FLAME HUNTER
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flame hunters are those few who dedicate their lives to fighting the largest predators of the Tharsûnian dwarves, red dragons. They attempt to turn the hunters into the hunted. While learning how to combat red dragons, flame
hunters also learn about how to combat other fiery creatures that red dragons might employ. Flame hunters are always Tharsûnian dwarves or are trained by them, and only the hardiest warriors can become one.
Classes: Fighters, barbarians, and paladins make good flame hunters because of their combat abilities. Rangers whose favored enemy is dragon also make good flame hunters.Clerics of Orodin sometimes become flame hunters to help protect their people. Sorcerers and wizards hardly ever become flame hunters because they would rather increase their casting powers.
NPC: NPC flame hunters spend their time either hunting down red dragons, or protecting Tharsûnian dwarven land from them.

CLASS FEATURES
All of the following are class features of the flame hunter prestige class.
- Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A flame hunter gains proficiency with all simple and martial weapons, with all types of armor, and with shields
and tower shields.
- Spells per Day: At 1st level and every two levels thereafter, the flame hunter gains new spells per day and spell known as if he had also gained a level in whatever divine spellcasting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class.
He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (bonus metamagic or item creation feats, and so on), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting.
If the character possessed more than one divine spellcasting class before he became a flame hunter, he must decide which class will receive the additional spellcasting level for the purposes of determining spells per day when he adds the new level.
- Favored Enemy (Ex): Flame hunters are adept at fighting against their hated enemy and its fiery minions. At 1st level, a flame hunter gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against red dragons and creatures descended from red dragons (eg creatures with the Half-Red Dragon template). Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against such creatures. Note that though the bonuses function similar to the ranger class ability of the same name, the flame hunter has a favored enemy that is more specific than that of the ranger.
At 5th level the flame hunter gains an additional favored enemy, creatures with the fire subtype.
The flame hunter’s bonuses do stack with eachother and with those provided by other classes.
- Improved Resist Dragon Fear: Flame hunters would rather shave their beards than flee from their hated enemy. A flame hunter gains a +8 bonus on Will saving throws against the frightful presence of dragons.
- Immunity to Dragon Fear (Ex): At 10th level the flame hunter gains complete immunity to a red dragons frightful presence.
- Dragonbane: The flame hunter has been fighting red dragons long enough to know how to hit them, and hit them hard. At 2nd level the flame hunter
gains dragonbane as a bonus feat.
- Damage Reduction (Ex): The flame hunters life is not an easy one, and to survive he must be extremely resilient. At 3rd level the flame hunter
gains DR 1/-. This increases to 2/- at 6th level and 3/- at 9th level.
- Earthbind (Sp): Its no fun when the red dragon flies away. At 3rd level the flame hunter gains the ability to cast earthbind as a sorcerer with a caster level of the flame hunters class level three times per day. This casting is not subject to arcane spell failure.
- Dragoncrafter: Like all Tharsûnian dwarves, flame hunters are talented craftsmen, and since they kill red dragons they have plenty of materials. At 5th level the flame hunter gains dragoncrafter as a bonus feat.
- Improved Critical (Ex): The flame hunter knows where to hit dragons to make it hurt the most. At 7th level the flame hunter counts as having the
improved critical feat for any attack used against a dragon.
- Dragondoom: The flame hunter has learned not only where to hit dragons to make it hurt, but how to hit them. At 8th level the flame hunter gains
dragondoom as a bonus feat.
- Find the Gap (Sp): The flame hunter has been fighting red dragons long enough to know how important it is to get past those thick scales. At
10th level the flame hunter may cast Find the Gap as a sorcerer of his flame hunter class level once per day. This casting is not subject to spell failure.
- Red Dragon Bane (Su): The flame hunter becomes such a powerful champion of dragon slaying that he channels his hatred of red dragons into any weapon he wields. At 10th level any weapon a flame hunter wields is considered a bane weapon when used against red dragons.
