New ways to generate ability scores.

Everyone in the group rolls 3d6 six times, summing each roll.

Anyone can use any set of dice rolls, arranging the six rolls as they see fit. More than one person can use the same set.

If you want more flexibility, allow players to subtract one point from one score and add it to another, provided that the second score is lower than the first.

What's wrong with you guys. I said crazy, interesting, exotic. Not booooring ;) :p
For a home brew race of mine we do 4 rolls just as boring as ever, but for INT we do 3d8 and for STR we do 3d4. While this has the potential of 3-24, no one has ever rolled over 20. Also despite this supposed advantage, the d4 rolls equal or surpass the d8 rolls a good percentage of the time.

Someone else uses the same method as me (though I allow three odds). Eureka!

Heck, for all I know... I got it from you. Ever been in Spokane WA? :D
Nope. Never been far west of where I live now (Maryland). Just seems to me that every time I explain mod totals to someone outside my group, they can't believe it works.

IMG we usually roll either 4d6 and drop the lowest. We have done 5d6 and drop the two lowest on occasion. For the last game I ran I made pregens and assigned stats. I made sure all of the modifiers were equal to 5. :)

From someone on ENWorld

The one I've used lately was stolen from someone on ENWorld here, so if it's you, good job. We start with the elite array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 arranged as desired. Then the player rolls 6d6. For each 1 rolled you add a +1 to str. For each 2 rolled you add a +1 to dex and so forth, up to a maximum of 18 before racial modifiers. If you're a fighter and placed your 15 on str then rolled six 1's the max you could have is the 18 but then you could put the three 1's wherever you wanted, up to 18. The default array represents training in your field and the randomness of the roll represents talent.

I don't know where we got it, but one method my players enjoy was called "organic" somewhere...

4d6-L
6 times, record stats in order
switch any two stats
reroll any one stat

I was skeptical myself, as has been nearly everybody I've shown. It does work though.
