New Weapons Help - Weighted Chain, Military Flail, Repeating Crossbow, etc.

Easily sorted with a tweak to the description above. To my mind, Great Weapon Fighter is not really intended to work with such light/finesse weapons (it's obviously more of a "hit really hard with a big weapon" thing), but I can account for it now, thanks. After all, the only reason the Meteor Hammer is two-handed is because it's a long length of slender chain.

This all said, if you have any suggestions as to how you'd model one, I'm certainly open to it. It's a rare and unusual weapon, so it's certainly an edge case.

For the crossbow, I would make it shorter range (and possibly less damage) than the light crossbow, require 1 round to load each bolt (can obviously be done well prior to combat) but remove the loading characteristic so that characters with multiple attacks could fire it multiple times in a round. Iwould also consider giving it a chance to "jam" or "misfire" where the loading mechanism didn't work quite right and takes an action to reset.

I don't have a PHB to hand for comparison so can't give the exact stats I would use

The final version does have less range than the light crossbow or shortbow, lacks the Loading quality (to reflect rapid fire for a crossbow), and does take 1 action to load each bolt into the hopper. Originally it was going to only do 1d6 damage too (like the hand crossbow and shortbow) but that would have made the weapon completely pointless. Instead, I upped it to 1d8 damage (the same as the light crossbow and longbow) so it's slightly less pointless even if it is still mostly an expensive curiosity. ;)

Apart from the meteor hammer/flying weight/rope dart I posted before, I also wanted to tackle the tekagi-shuko (ninja climbing claws also used as weapons), whip chains (such as the seven-section whip), and fighting fans (specifically the tie shan and gunsen, both are which were folding and had sharpened iron ribs). I was going to do a separate entry for hook swords (such as the tiger hook) but now I've found out that the early ones were sharp, the stats ended up being those of the scimitar, so I'm folding them in there. I've also added a Flail entry to the equivalency list in the form of the Chijiriki.

Simple Melee Weapons
Climbing Claws (pair) 1 gp special 1/2 lb. -
More of a climbing aid, climbing claws (tekagi-shuko) are iron bands that wrap around the palms of the hand and also strap to the wrist. 3-4 short iron claws project from the palm to give the wielder increased purchase on surfaces. They also enable the wearer to do slashing damage with their unarmed attacks instead of bludgeoning, but while worn they inflict Disadvantage on most other tasks using the hands beyond striking and climbing.

Fighting Fan 5 gp 1d4 slashing 2 lb. Finesse, light
An elegant weapon, the fighting fan is a decorative folding fan with sharp-tipped iron ribs. Other fans used to fight or defend are either clubs designed to resemble folded fans (tessen) or solid, paddle-like open fans (gunbai).

Martial Melee Weapons
Chain Whip 5 gp 1d6 slashing 4 lb. Finesse, light
A difficult weapon to learn, the chain whip traditionally has seven or nine short, slender, linked iron bars attached to a short handle and tipped with a slashing metal dart.

Thanks. Asian and European only for the moment, yes. If I was to stat a maquahuitl, I'd say Longsword for the most common variety. About the same length, slashing, long handle used in 1 or 2 hands, around 3 lbs., capable of serious cutting blows.

I did conversion for Ribbon sword: 10 gp 1d6 slashing 6 lb, reach, two-handed ( looks like a thin longsword with a ribbon, that can be tied to the wrist giving it a property of reach, two-handed only doing normal 1d6 damage) ribbon sword
