New WotC D&D DMing Survey

Seems a bit mixed purpose. First, to figure out what people will be using for the Campaign Tools. Second, to gauge some of the interest (dare I say "traction") of the PHBII/PH stuff. Third, to find out how often and with how many other people D&D players are actually playing, and what things they might actually be using.

Or, at least, to get a vague sense of what people who visit the WotC site feel about these things. I can't help but think there's a large number of players who don't regularly visit the WotC site. I know ENWorld is pretty savvy to a lot of the goings on, but I get the sense that most people don't care much about D&D when they aren't actively playing D&D.

Anywho, something I noticed in the poll:

There's no option for "genderless" or otherwise nonmale/nonfemale characters. I'm playing a Modron Outcaste in a campaign right now, so it's an IT, not a he or a she. I'd guess most people playing Warforged would have a similar dilemma, as would those people who are playing 2e and who put on one of those cursed belts that switches your genders. ;)

I do wish they ahd been clearer about where/how you DM.

I play mostly via yahoogroups and it is hard to say how many sessions I DM on there.

Same with use a computers during a session. At least I could put my answer into the 'other' catagory.

I found it difficult to answer the questions about who I DM for; I run two different parties (with some overlapping players) concurrently in the same campaign world. I kinda mushed 'em together to get my answers but it's not very representative.

Also, there was very little asked about the game(s) that I play in, as opposed to DM; yet that represents a different campaign and mostly different group of people.

As for computers, the only things I use computers for are:

a) recordkeeping after the fact, including logs, stats, and a website; and
b) recently, I've started trying to find a representative fantasy image for each adventure and have it sitting on the screen during each session, to help set the atmosphere.

Interesting to note there were no questions at all about money - "what would you be willing to pay for xxx" - I guess that'll be the next survey. :)

That's the first Wizards survey where I've been able to give factual answers without worrying about them being misconstrued. Read into it as you will.

I noticed there was an option like: Q: Do you use a laptop at the gaming table? Me: Yes: Q: What for? A: mm can't answer that, no option for 'I use it to search the PDFs that you no longer sell!'
(snip)

I admit to slipping in a very similar answer in the appropriate place (and also mentioning that I would be using the PDFs for the later products anyway).

14 Which edition or editions of the Dungeons & Dragons game have you played within the last 3 months? (Please choose all that apply.)

First Edition (first released in 1974)
Second Edition (first released in 1990)

Anyone else think it odd that OD&D and 1st edition AD&D are being lumped together?

No, not really. I think for many people they are the same in that they are from the "dim, dark past" so they're naturally conflated (as they are for me and I remember both: it was only the posts by Diaglo a few years ago that reminded me of the fundamental differences).
