I hope that when 4e hits that the prices on these things go way down. Not only can I get 'em cheaper new at many places, some stores are liquidating their 3e stock.

Agreed.

Their PDF prices are frankly ludicrous. In the PDF market, that is simply not the way you price product. It's daft.

I would have bought some, if not for that. So there are some lost sales right here, that might become actual sales, should they decide to do as just about every other publisher in existence does.

Listening, guys? :)

WotC's goals with the PDF versions of their products are completely different than most other publishers. Their intent is to make their products available in places where it would otherwise be exteremely difficult or expensive to get them, and to satisy those who really, really want an electronic copy. Everyone else, they'd prefer they buy the print versions.

Sorry, I don't buy that. So to speak. ;)

My only interest in keeping up with what's being released is to see if they release the entire 3.x catalog in PDF format. My second interest is to see if they drop the prices after 4e is released. Even if they don't I might still purchase PDF copies of all of the Eberron books for fast referencing with a search.

What's not to buy? It's a business model, not an excuse. WotC made the pdfs only as an option for those who prefer them over print versions. They were never intended to save players money or compete with the print product. Whether we think it's a good reason is immaterial.

Another small batch of PDFs from WotC available at the EN World RPGNow store:
  • Dragons of Eberron
  • Dragonmarked
  • Drow of the Underdark

The only Eberron PDFs missing now are Eyes of the Lich Queen, Secrets of Sarlona and City of Stormreach; City of Stormreach won't be published until mid-February.

They're targetting people like me

I am an American living in Buenos Aires. The D&D books here are all written in Spanish.

So for me, they are useful. though I agree that they cost too much.

*shrug* It apparently makes financial sense to them to not compete with the bookstores and game shops they depend on to sell their hard copies.
