New WotC PDFS!

*shrug* It apparently makes financial sense to them to not compete with the bookstores and game shops they depend on to sell their hard copies.
And to not sell to those who would buy electronic copies in addition to their hardcopies if the prices were lower.

Until 4e comes out that is.

Their intent is to make their products available in places where it would otherwise be exteremely difficult or expensive to get them
So you guys are saying that it's ok for WotC to take advantage of less fortunate people by dangling the carrot in front of them and ripping them off?

I can understand WotC not wanting the pdf to compete with the print version, but full price for a pdf? Surely if a person is willing to pay full price for an inferior product then it's not that big of a deal to pay an extra $5-$10 on shipping for the real deal?

And surely WotC isn't threatened by a pdf version if they sold it for $10-$15. Anyone that's going to pay $15 for a pdf wouldn't have bought the hard copy anyway. At least not for full price. Those are going to be the people that buy them cheaper from the secondary market.

People actually pay full price for a pdf file? Wow

I hope that when 4e hits that the prices on these things go way down. Not only can I get 'em cheaper new at many places, some stores are liquidating their 3e stock.

Well, they started selling most of the 1st & 2nd edition pdfs at $5 a pop soon after 3rd edition came out. In fact, that's still the price for a lot of them. Let's hope they [significantly] drop the 3rd/3.5 ed. prices when 4th edition appears.

Honestly, I was hoping this thread wouldn't derail into a discussion about the prices, which is what happens with EVERY thread about the WotC PDFs. It's been hashed out dozens of times in dozens of threads, and I don't think there's anything new that can be said about it.

Basically, I just wanted to post about the availability of new PDFs for those who are interested.

:o

Sorry. You're right, it's been said before. By me, even, for instance.

Moving right along. . .

But it's hard not to comment on that when I forget and then follow the link and see that those prices are for full retail :p

It's as hard as:

not whistling when a hot chick walks by.

not flipping a guy off for whistling at you when you walked by.

not eating a cream-filled donut when a coworker brings them in for everyone.

a girl not saying "ahhhh, I want one" when she walks by a pet store and sees the puppies in the window.

a guy not thinking "ahhhh, I want one" when he walks by a Hooters restaurant and sees the girls in the window.

a villain killing the hero when he has the perfect chance.

Mac users not shutting up about how superior Apple products are over PCs.

DMs not pointing out how much you suck as a DM and how they do better.

Sometimes you just have to live with the inevitable :p

...and now Drow of the Underdark. They're really cranking them out!

Edit: And Elder Evils :o

Another Edit: I forgot Drow of the Underdark was already released. It seems they updated the record in the DB, bumping it to the top of their new releases.
