Newbie latecomer question

Hi folks,

I've just chopped off my arm and both legs so that I can make it over to Gencon (from the UK) this summer. I'm completely new to it all. I've only been to one convention previously, and our biggest over here only gets a couple of hundred people, so I'm not used to anything on the scale of gencon. Anyway, so I'm a bit late and I'm too late to sign up for games on the Gencon site, but is it too late to get a game full stop? Are the games posted here "official" in any way, or are people just getting together? Can you get table space without booking it in advance? If I run something am I likely to get players? - Help, please

The stuff posted here are just pick-up games, with the location generally determined opportunistically. Look around, though, cause a couple people (myself included) have tickets we aren't going to use, so you may be able to get into a couple of the 'official' games too.

Edit: Oh, cool, I guess you found a place to stay?

You may be able to get into official events using Generic Tickets. IIRC, they're $1.50 per ticket. If there are no-shows, GMs running official events will take generic tickets from folks to fill their games.

What about running a game? can I post here like people have been doing and get players, and then find a place to play when there? Or are the games posted here validated with the gencon authorities?

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions here, but its all new to me...

The games posted here are all unsanctioned pick-up games (technically, I think that one thread is for a sanctioned game, but I forget). Just us EN Worlders getting together for some friendly gaming.

So, yes, you can post here like others have done and see what response you get. Also, if you don't fill your game prior to GenCon, you can still try to fill it at GenCon. There should be a binder for pickup games located at the ENnies booth that GMs and players can use to organize pickup games.

Nope.

Mostly it's catch as catch can. Some have had some luck scoring empty tables in the convention center, but it's really more typical to snag tables in adjacent hotels and food courts.

Are you running Etherscope? Depending on when (and if either of my spycraft game ever garners more interest), I might be able to clear a spot on my schedule.

Even if you don't get a full roster now, it's worth a try. There should be a games list binder at the booth at GenCon. Some games fall through, some people get hungry for gaming and sign up at the last minute, etc.

Joseph (Goodman) has organised for me to run a couple of Etherscope sessions and I've also taken over Nigel's Etherscope LARP murder mystery, so I've got a lot of Etherscope already on the go....

Although I suppose I could run something for my friends here at ENWorld :). I'll see what I can come up with.

Run Etherscope Saturday night and I'll be there :D

I'm already running the Etherscope LARP murder mystery sat 7-11. I don't know if there's any spaces left on it or not...

Any other free sessions you could manage?
