News of a Dragonlance movie

I beg of everyone to please NOT make this a "who would be good for whom" casting call. I'd like to have this thread to be treated more as a informational thread for actual "facts" of the possible up coming movie.

I know we all have our "ideal" actors/actresses for the parts, but lets please debate that in another thread :)

Thanks ;)

Optioning a movie is often a tactic used by studios to lock out a movie from other studios, with no intent to actually make the movie. It can be a first step, but it is a baby step at best. If they exercised the option, you have a full step.

While we're on the topic of DL, can someone please explain to me why people think so highly of it? I read the first three books and they struck me as child-like at best.

Well, Achilles, if all you're reading is Homer's stuff, I can see why you'd say that. ;)

The reason probably has to do with nostalgia. The Chronicles were some of the first fantasy books I ever read and I loved them. Still do! It's high adventure, comedy, drama...everything you should get in a fantasy trilogy.

Hmmm....I would LOVE to see a DL movie....its my fav setting of all time (since there isnt a Valdemar d20 game).

On the subject of actors.....i found this a long time ago.....someones idea of an ideal raistlin (its obvious who the actor is)

Well, the reason why I have such strong feelings towards DL is that it was the start of my life of reading for fun. Before these books I hated to read. DL is classic for my generation, at least in my eyes. It's what moved me into the fantasy fiction genre, gaming, and opened my imagination. Why are they popular? *shrug* It a epic. Simple, but epic. It contains good vs evil, physical and mental conflicts, romance, self sacrifice. And I would wager that everyone who has read DL can relate to at least one character in it. You get drawn to these characters.

The language may be not of Shakespearing format, but it is great.

I for one, will be slowly proding my future children to read these to get them to read. ;)

no problem. i knew i had it on my comp...i had to search a minute to find it, but i thought youd like it. Can anyone else see Keanu Reeves as a good Raistlin?

No. A block of wood would be more expressive than Keanu could ever be. Only the sheer coolness of The Matrix prevented his overwhelming awfulness from ruining the movie. Of course this is just my opinion, I'm sure some disagree. :)

i just thought it was the idiotic premise of humans as batteries that ruined the movie for everyone.
