Newsworthy! Gamma world now under the S&SS banner!

Note that I said besides T2k. And even it was never immensely popular, and it was dying before GDW went under. BTW, I have just about every sourcebook and adventure for the game. It was a good game, but the only successful one of its type.

T2K was GDW's best-selling game line for the last several years of the company's existence, per Frank Chadwick. "Immensely" popular? No, not by a long shot - certainly not as popular as Traveller had been before GDW bungled it. Possibly not even popular enough to sustain the company without considering the financial woes which killed it, by that time.

Say, we're both in Cleveland. I'm on the west side - where in town are you?

I'd love to see a griity post-apocalypse game something like The Road Warrior - desperate battles for survival in a world gone to radioactive crap. Gamma World was never that game.

This is actually a pretty good description of Darwin's World. We are also working on d20 Modern version of our post-apoc game.

Still, it's good to see that this genre will have more content. Looking forward to seeing what they produce...

I gotcha now earthsshadow and we have very similar tastes in this regard!

I am glad Bruce in on this, I have liked his stuff for a while now!

And Gary, to each his own. I think i'd find playing with the Road Warrior to be boring and Gamma World goofy fun!!! :D

I completely agree. I love Bruce's stuff. Anyone see the editing job he did on Nobilis?? A creative genuis' dream!!!

Actually no, I didn't see his editing in Nobilis... but then again, I consider that the mark of a good editor, not seeing it, that is. If I can see the editing job, it's because they made mistakes.

Gamma World..... mmmmm, crunchy Sterling Lanier goodness..... </drool>

I'm actually rather proud to say that I have every iteration of Gamma World so far, and I'll buy this one as well. Assuming that it's better than the 'Horseclans' version (3rd ed.?), I'll even be able to find players to run it for.

You know, I had a feeling that OMEGA WORLD was just the beginning to bringing back Gamma World. And now that someone else is doing it, maybe we'll get something more like a *campaign setting* then previous versions.

I gotta have my background and lots of options, options, options!

Cheers!

p.s. BTW, did anyone else here, hear about Green Ronin buying Dragon Fist. It was mentioned on the official wizards board but I can't find a thread here. Did I miss it?

By the way, in case anyone's wondering, I'm not knocking niche games, or depressing games, having done some of my favorite work for both. :) Anyone caught making fun of other styles of play had better not do it around me, because I hate that stuff - gaming's for fun, and just because I find something fun (or not) doesn't mean everyone else has to agree. I don't regard myself as in competition with anyone else also trying to go good, worthwhile, fresh work, either. Only derivative hacks compete in any meaningful sense. (It's good to dabble, too - sometimes you may be surprised by what you find cool and fun after all.)

I'm hoping that this edition of Gamma World will be less in the vein of "here is The Official Map with the places you can go marked on it" and more in the vein of "here are considerations, and here are examples, and this is how you shuffle it all up to get the effect you want". Gamma World should (I think) have a home-rolled feel to it.

Well, I wasn't saying it couldn't be fun. I just expressed reservations about the viability of the project, given that the game has not been particularly successful in the past. However, Bruce's idea sound very interesting (and Bruce is known to do good work,) so I'm keeping an open mind.

I think viability also has something to do with the way GW has been treated over the years. Heck, TSR even forgot to publish a module for 2nd Edition? If the line is supported and is of the same quality level as the Scarred Lands or Exalted, I think we will see a product that gets regular game play and will have some lifespan on the store shelves.

Later!
