Hrm, either not all prairies or the Prairie Potholes region in North America is seriously misnamed (the potholes being literally hundreds of ponds & small lakes).

How many of these are seasonal or year round? And where is the region located?

I was talking about prairies overall. There will always be regions where the norm isn't.

If I keep telling myself this, I feel better about the prospects of more environment and monster-themed books.

I've put out three monster environment themed books— Monster Geographica: Underground, Monster Geographica: Marsh & Aquatic, and the new Monster Geographica: Forest. If you're looking for monsters by environment, I've got 200 of each. :)

That's nothing for the next 8 months, and this sounds somehow as if they had given up on the concept. Maybe, the books didn't sell that well.

They probably just need time to track sales information on the first three.

Hey, Turjan, while they track that data drop me an e-mail at roninartspresident@yahoo.com -- you've been selected by the Online Prize Patrol and I want to be sure you claim your prize.

A quick google of 'prairie pothole region' provided a lot of links, with a map included at this one. It's basically the northernmost portion of the Great Plains grasslands. While the potholes themselves are of course wetlands, many are quite small (hence the 'pothole' appellation) & the area surrounding them is (or was originally, at least) prairie.

Sounds 'bout right. I hope they do well, I hardly glance at WotC monster books, but have ordered Maelstrom/Stormwrack and am now waiting on its arrival.

The Auld Grump, when the part yealizes that the monster they are sneaking up on is a large yellow rubber ducky then shall they know the maning of the word fear... The ocean is my bathtub!

Most useful. You have my thanks for the information. Could you provide the Google result page? So people can check out the sites listed.

Folks, go ahead and visit the link Snapdragyn provided, and the links that page provides. One publication (from 1972) has a black and white aerial photo of a few square mile of prairie pothole region. Place is covered with ponds and lakes. Not what I thought of when I think of prairies. Looks like they're more varied and more interesting then I had thought.

Now who was it that thought a sourcebook on grasslands wouldn't be interesting? :)
