Night at the Mueseum

Checked the splices on this one today (had a doozy between reels two and three)

This is a good movie. Very enjoyable. Not to complicated and no one is going to accuse it of having a lot of depth, but a very good film and fairly original as well.

You know the basic premise from the previews already. Night guard in a muesuem where the exhibits come to life. An unlikely premise that is handled well and isn't compleley unbelievable.

It has several good laughs, but not as many as you might think. Mostly, it's cool to watch the exhibits walk around and how the night guard adapts to them. There is a story of redemption, romance, and theiving villany in there of course, but its the dynamic of the guard and the exhibits that you come to watch. The three prior guards played by Dick Van Dyke, Bill Cobbs, and Mickey Rooney (hysterical as an aggressive ex-boxer ready to take anyone on) are excellent as well.

Carla Gugino, the romantic interest, is incredibly hot without ever trying to be once. I never realized I was the history-geek-in-a-cute-button-down-sweater type, but I am now. She really puts steam in a man's stride.

A good movie, go see it, you won't be sorry.

We're going to go see it tonight. It looks like a good, kick-back enjoyable movie.

Edit: Just got back from seeing the flick and it was really enjoyable. If you need to escape for 2 hours and kick back I highly recommend this film.

I enjoyed it a great deal. I'm debating whether to take my 6 year old son to see it. He already loves Galaxy Quest... one of his favorite movies.

Plus, I got to see the brief teaser for the next Fantastic Four movie. The Rise of the Silver Surfer. The Silver Surfer looked positively cosmic. Sort of had this bemused demeanor that the Human Torch was chasing him...

I would recommend checking out Sin City for more of her, though be warned that her scene is rather NSFW.

For seeing more of her that's safer for work look to "Snake Eyes" with Nicolas Cage and Gary Sinise.

"Museum", btw was the most fun I've had at the movies in some time. Maybe I was just in the mood for it, but I thought it easily outdid animateds like "Cars" and "Happy Feet". A number of scenes felt like they were lingering over-long expecting lots of riotous laughter that wasn't there, but it was forgivable. It never took itself too seriously, but seriously enough to make the premise work. None of the jokes get hit too hard or too often. I imagine that the book is even better, probably includes a lot of history that gets removed for a screenplay, and will sell like hotcakes.

I saw it today and totally enjoyed it. It is the perfect popcorn movie. Mickey Rooney's lines just cracked me up. I do not understand the critics giving this movie just two stars.

I'm not surprised Rarely to do critics give movies a lot of stars which a viewing public likes. In other words if the general public like the movie critics don't. Maybe the movie wasn't 'artsy' enough because the general public wouldn't know a good movie if it was right in front of them on a big screen for them to see it. :\

I think one of the big problems some critics have is the inability to judge a film that is not to meant to be an oscar winner. They judge everything to the same standard of what they learned in film school, or worse in some college film class.

Night of the Museum is not meant to be a top 100 film of all time. It was a funny little movie that delivered on what it was suppose to. A couple of hours of entertainment.

It was the perfect movie for me. I always go to the movies on Christmas day to sort of unstress out after the hustle and bustle of the holiday. I try to pick a film that is funny and not to serious for this.

So for me this was a perfect fit. Like Galaxy Quest was a few years ago.

I loved the film as well, it was an apology film for Eragon for me. For some reason I can see either a couple sequels or a series either before or after movie.
