Ninja Sudden Strike Question

First Post
I have a player in our campaign playing a ninja. We ran into an issue last night with the hide skill. Basically he would spend a round hiding under a table, then would step out into plain sight to fire. Now it doesnt seem right because he, when fired is in plain sight so the enemy would be aware of him, so the sudden strike would not apply. Any advice and where the information would be found on the situation? Thanks!

You get a move action and a standard action every round. If the Ninja moves then attacks in the same round he gets his sudden strike.

Also when the ninja get to be a high enough level he can make himself invisible for round. This lets him easily get him sudden strike the round after he turns himself invisible.

Please Reread Sniping rules: what he did is legal technically (assuming that is what you meant). But why isn't the Ninja going invisible (it lasts whole rd regardless of if attacks) by ghost step.

Sniping

If you’ve already successfully hidden at least 10 feet from your target, you can make one ranged attack, then immediately hide again. You take a -20 penalty on your Hide check to conceal yourself after the shot.

I think you should also keep in mind that unless he has Hide in Plain Sight (it is a very early gain for a Shadow Dancer, so he may very well have it), you cannot hide while being observed. If people can see you, you need to create a diversion to hide, which is a standard action all on its own.

Also note that a combat round is really short, and combat is really confusing, emotional, and messy for those involved. If it helps you wrap your mind around said Ninja's (RAW-legal) actions, imagine that everybody's really fighting for their lives. So it's kinda easy to forget that the skinny guy in the black pyjama, who just seemed to want to get away from all the killing and dove under a table, might still pose a threat.
