I'd love to see a complete reinvention of the Conan franchise, starting over with new stories as though the previous movies never happened. I mean, I'd love to have seen King Conan, but with Arnie as... Jeez, I can't even say it. With Arnie otherwise occupied, that's not likely.

Not sure who I'd cast in the role. I actually like Duane "The Rock" Johnson (dodges fruit), but I don't think he's right for the part. (His voice and speech patterns sound too modern.) Maybe a newcomer? Worked for Arnie himself.

I cant really imagine the Rock as Conan either. At this stage in his career IMHO the Rock is playing the Rock in every movie regardless of role.

I was rooting against Arnold to win the election becasue of the Conan movie rumors (which officially qualifies me as a geek I think). With all the Arnold stuff recently,I just got the collectors addition of Conan the Babrbarian last week. I love the John Milius audio commentary. Arnolds remarks leave alot to be desired and are often unintentionally funny.

However, after seeing the first movie, it just points out what might have been-there could have been a great trilogy, but alas no. I want a Milius Conan movie no matter who is cast in the lead, please!

I don't know the Robert Howard character of Conan, but in the context of the movie, I believe his refusal of the kingdom worked fine.

They had established that he was prophecied to become a king "By his own Hand."
If he had ruled by her side (in a queen-led kingdom, IIRC), he would have just been a boy-toy, basically.

I don't see the movie Conan accepting that, and he didn't.
Conan 2 is MUCH better than people remember, IMO.
It was a crappy little kingdom anyway, I don't blame him for ditching the kingdom of whiny little snits.:)

Conan 2 isn't MUCH better than I remember (it was on Sci Fi a couple of days ago).

I saw Conan 2 for the first time quite recently.

It's really bad and not even funny bad. I didn't feel bad
after I watched it, it didn't invoke any kind of emotion,
which to me seems to be the worst kind of badness there
is. Makes the whole thing just kinda pointless.

The music's still great though.

I can't really picture the Rock as Conan. The Scorpion King was a damn fun movie, a fun cheesy romp that was made kind of on the cheap. And I sure as hell wouldn't mind seeing some sequels. But The Rock just doesn't seem like a good actor for Conan.

Same here. I wanted to see Arnold make a new Conan movie too.

You got me there, both movies did have great soundtracks.

I should also mention that I haven't liked anything by deLaurentis at all anyway, he mixes bad ideas with bad scripts to produce something less than the sum of its parts. (Come on people, this is the guy who brought us King Kong Lives where they fit the big ape with an artificial heart! (He then goes beserk, go figure...)

The Auld Grump, don't like his daughter's stuff either.

It wouldn't have worked with Conan, because that's not the destiny Howard wrote for him. Conan was an adventurer who eventually became the king of Aquilonia, the most powerful of the Hyborian kingdoms, after he killed the kingdom's former ruler. That's probably why he turned down Jenna at the end, because they were looking ahead to possible sequels.

Conan the Destroyer isn't the worst fantasy movie of all time, but the cheesinees and cliched story does not mesh well with the acting. But I can watch it without exeriencing any sort of pain or seizures.

I guess Conan got tired of waiting for his movie kingdom, so he went for a governorship instead. :)

I was really looking forward to a Conan 3 with Arnold. I don't see it being made while he's governor, and it's unlikely it will get made after he leaves the statehouse, whenever that is.

I am not very interested in a Conan 3 with another actor playing Conan. If they started the series over with another actor, then it would be more interesting.
