No experience for summoned creatures?

Hm. Interesting take. Though it still leads to the conclusion that a wall of force will disappear if the caster gets too far away from it, and that seems counter-intuitive.

Wait a minute... ahh! Here's a quote straight from the SRD:

"Effect: Some spells create or summon things rather than affecting things that are already present. The character must designate the location where these things are to appear, either by seeing it or defining it. Range determines how far away an effect can appear, but if the effect is mobile it can move regardless of the spell's range."

(emphasis mine)

That seems to settle it, then.

Indeed. Good work Sagiro!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread...

As for XP for summoned/created foes...Here is how I do it:

If the creature was summoned during an encounter then no XP is awarded for it. If a creature was summoned and then encountered later, I'll likely give XP for the creature...

So if an enemy wizard casts Summon Monster in the middle of a fight...no XP for the creature. But if an enemy cleric creates some undead and sends them to treck miles and miles to attack the PCs in their camp, then normal XP for the undead is granted because the encounter is with them...not the controlling/creating cleric.

Oh, ok... I think I was getting some debates mixed up here. I apologize. I thought you were arguing for both the range limitation AND XP award... I apparently assumed too much. Mea culpa. ;)

I completely agree with your assessment.

Let's look at it another way.

Should a party get xp if a Druid casts Animal Friendship, and thus has animals fighting with him? My answer, No:

If the druid is using animals which he has linked himself to, during the fight, then they are extensions of his power. However, if before the start of the encounter, points at the party, says 'Sick 'Em!' then high-tails it out of there, to cast ANimal Friendship again on an animal now that his are dead (Which isnt' a very druidic attitude, using animals as fodder), then they Do get the xp.
