No lions or tigers... oh my

BASHMAN

Basic Action Games
So I noticed a disturbing lack of "real" big cats in the game. There are no lions, no tigers either. Under the "panther" designation there are only 2 weird magic panthers-- and one of them-- the fey panther-- is not even a panther-- it is a blink lynx.

I want to see what an ordinary lion or tiger would do! I think something similar to the owl bear-- standard = 2 claws + enemy is grabbed (save ends) and then Rake-- only on grabed opponents-- automatic double the claw damage dice +STR.

Just reskin a monster.

The DM and I came up with the "compacticore" in an e-mail discussion. It's an ocelot that flings spines from its tail, and is based on the goblin harpooner.

I too would like to see more animals. I'd peg them as:

Tiger - Level 6 Solo Lurker (hunt alone by stalking)
Lion - Level 5 Elite Brute (defends the pride through sheer strength)
Lioness - Level 5 Lurker (hunt in groups by stalking)
Leopard - Level 3 Solo Lurker (hunt alone by stalking)
Bear - Level 6 Brute
Elephant - Level 9 Soldier
Rhinoceros - Level 8 Soldier
Stag - Level 4 Skirmisher

... or something like that

Yeah, I am running an African-flavoured campaign and would love to have seen mrore animals in the MM - if for nothing else than to use as a base for others. But as someone mentioned, even the animal entries in there are wierd.

Wish there were a few norm animals so I can get a feel for their power level, etc. Would a herd of antelope be minions? Anyway I am hoping to keterys the situation ;)

I guess they wanted to focus on the fantastic. But I'd personally like to see some stats for things like big cats, apes, etc. These do crop up often in fantasy, particularly pulp fantasy and adventure fiction.

Well, I didn't do it your way, but here's the Tigers I made last week...

Tiger, Sabertooth Tiger, Dire Tiger - 6,8,and 12 elites respectively.

W00T-- these are good-- but I would also give them Stealth and Perception as a trained skill. Still great work! I like that you did the raking claws as ongoing damage rather than additional attack rolls!
