No more LGG?

Uh oh!

which it very much is.

Whew! Never mind. ;)

I was wondering what new LG players would do if there was no LGG, but hopefully what Vocenoctum suggested is true.

Anyway, i bought mine a long time ago after hearing that it was a really good book. It is! And I just joined the RPGA and LG.

Erik, I hope to see you at another LG seminar at this year's GenCon!

Folks,

There's a very good chance that the scooper was operating upon information that wasn't 100% accurate (though with a company this size, it's sometimes difficult to tell). We're looking into it. The Gazetteer is certainly supposed to be available for as long as Living Greyhawk is a going concern, which it very much is.

Keep your eye out for new information regarding this, but it may be a couple weeks before you see it.

As the guy who initially reported this let me clarify where the info is coming from:
The information was sent via email from Alliance Games, the largest game distributor in the US. I don't know where they got it but I would assume it's coming from Wizards of the Coast to them. I've looked into what kind of numbers are available on the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer and currently only one out of four warehouses has it instock. At that warehouse it is marked "limited."
As Erik said it can be difficult to tell sometimes within Wizards where this info originates.

I'm kind of hoping Wizards is going to do a new Living Greyhawk book ala Forgotten Realms style. That's probably wishful thinking on my part though. :/

Which LGG is going out of print though? The 32 page introduction, or the larger world book? It's annoying that WotC released two books with exactly the same title. My guess is that it's the 32 page "intordution" that's going out of print, but confirmation would be good. :)
The big one is outta here.

Yes, this is sad news. I too think that the LGG is a great book. I can only hope they have some other book in the wings to take its place, but I get the feeling that Greyhawk is once again being shown the door. :(

I think that this has more to do with business reality, than GH being once again shown 'the door'. If there was some huge demand for LGG of course they'd reprint it! But there probably isn't, and they probably won't.

I know that the paranoid people have enemies too and all that, but aren't the GH people just a little overreacting?

Perhaps the 'paranoia' is simply a reaction to what happened in 2E ?

As an active participant in the LG campaign, though, I say kudos to the people that are running it and their hard work. If the local area I'm playing in (Perrrenland) is any indication, there is a huge amount of development at 'ground level' going on, and perhaps the next edition of LGG will be the richer for it ... ?

Looking forward to more LG (and LGJ and LGG !)

When I asked about this very issue, on the Gran March Yahoo list, the reply was:

"I don't know about anyone else, but I don't believe that the LGG was _ever_intended to be a long-term product.

It was the launching-point for the campaign, which, after all, is "living." Within months of the campaign starting, portions of the LGG were out of date as Triads expanded and developed their regions, and by now, probably most of it is antiquated (to a large degree, at least)."

To which I replied:

"Which is one of the reasons folks like me do NOT participate in LG; I want a sourcebook that I can modify as I see fit. If changes to Oerth are to be made, as the DM, I am the one who will change them.

GH needs to divide itself between the LG folks, who wish for a fluid campaign of their own liking, and the rest of us, who want our own GH. Why should my GH campaign suffer, simply because LG has other plans?"

I know that the paranoid people have enemies too and all that, but aren't the GH people just a little overreacting?

Well, if this rumor is true (and I'm happy to hear it might not be), than it would be comparable to WotC one day announcing that the Forgotten Realms setting book was going out of print and wouldn't be reprinted. In other words, the setting would be doomed to a slow but inescapable death. Sure, the fans could press on (as Greyhawk fans have had to do in the past), but no new DMs would have access to the most basic setting material.

I don't consider myself a rabid Greyhawker, but I'm knowledgable enough about the setting's past treatment to be quite suspicious of this latest development.

Perhaps if people would buy the damn thing instead of constantly complaining that it isn't a real GH sourcebook, they might be more inclined to keep selling it, eh?

Forgive me if I sound blunt, but when I hear "wow, maybe we'll get a real GH book now" it tells me simply "this guy/gal hasn't even read the LGG, sheesh..."

Oh, I've definitely bought it, you don't have to worry about that. It's really an excellent book. However, it lacks the kind of crunchy bits and rules and heft of the Forgotten Realms setting book. Although most Greyhawk fans I have talked to love the LGG, they wish and dream for the kind of treatment the Forgotten Realms got.

i'm sure if it "died", it would be kept alive on-line much as Planescape and Dragonlance has.

Hmmm. Well, in that case I'll make sure to visit the setting in the hospital, where it is on life support, withering away and fading fast.
