D&D 4E No more reprints of the 4E core books?

You're all wrong. WotC is out of PHBs and won't print any more because of their new business model: collectible RPGs. The info will always be compatible so there will always be a demand for your goodies. That's right, the value of your PHB is about to go through the roof and you can fund your retirement on your gaming supplies now. WotC is pure genius and providing a RoI that no one else in the industry can touch.

IIRC, Monte Cook indicated that 3.5 (or some revision) was planned from the start of 3.0.

It's one thing doing the planning for 3.5, which may been around since mid-2000.

It's totally something else in doing the actual real work of development, writing, editing, typesetting, printing, etc ... which was most likely done during the one year (or longer) period from early-mid 2002 to the July 2003 release of the 3.5 core books.

I'm curious whether Skills & Powers was literally considered "2.5" back when it was released. I was only playing intermittently at the time, but I don't recall anything like that. I've always been under the impression that "2.5" was applied retroactively to Skills & Powers when 3.5 came out.

I knew people who referred to the Skills & Powers / Combat & Tactics / Spells & Magic / High level Campaigns books by the name of 2.5 back in their day.

Nah, from the Black Diamond twitter, it sounds like they'll have plenty of copies to come for years. And there's always e-bay (Personally, I just replaced my worn, finally-falling-apart copy of 1E DMG with a new, unused copy*) for less than I bought it in it's heyday.

Its entirely relative.

I wasn't planning on buying a 4Ed PHB1 for many years. However, with this announcement- plus my group's forays into 4Ed with only 2 PHB1s- I'm probably going to get a new 4Ed PHB1 the next time I see one discounted for sale.

Especially point 3, which seems to clearly spell out that the PHB, DMG and MM will still all be available.

I only got to page 6 before I realized I was reading the same basic points over and over again....

I really liked what AbdulAlharzad (sp?) said a few pages back. The game is now 21st century, and will evolve in incremental bits from here on out. Myabe there will be a "new edition" in some distant future, but the game will evolve in a more gradual pace.

That said, I would love to see the PHB1 classes be errata's to go /\ shaped instead of V shaped and I would like to see the early races get the PHB3 treatment of one primary stat and a choice of two secondary stat bumps.

THese two things, right here, would make the PHB Fighter/Rogue/Wizard/Cleric/Warlord/Ranger/Paladin/Warlock and the races that much better.
