I'm not really sure how the DM's Guild release is supposed to work.

What it sounds like they are saying is,

"Hey all! So apparently nothing we do with the mystic is making everyone happy. Tell you what, why don't y'all just make your own versions of it to show us what you are thinking. Go ahead and put out a bunch of subclasses and powers and whatever. Then after the dust has settled, we'll take what we like from those things, remake the class with them, put it out for a playtest, and if it does well make a final version of the class. And yes, that means the stuff you made will mostly all be incompatible with the final rules."

Although they might be saying,

"Hey all! How about you make a bunch of subclasses and powers and whatever that you can add to the basic mystic we've already built. Then we'll add the ones we like best to a playtest, and release the final mystic from there. Most of the stuff you make is probably still going to be compatible."

The first one means they just need to see more about what people really want with the mystic, and are possibly going to do a major rewrite. The second one means they're confident with the class they've built, but want more options and are opening it up to fans rather than doing it themselves. Either one likely means that the playtest results were conflicted.

I'm not sure how I feel about either interpretation. Fans can make some good stuff. After all, we often like our own work better than the official rules. On the other hand, it just seems so driftless letting it float around like that and seeing what comes back. I also feel like I have no idea what to expect with a follow-up playtest now.
I was critical of putting things on the DMs Guild at first. But the video Mearls did regarding it makes some good points.
It is easier to update the document to new versions and make sure people are playing the latest, and not accidentally downloading an old draft. The class is open for use in side products like adventures for people to test it in different ways.

You should hold your breath waiting on that! :) How exactly does one "gear up" for something that doesn't exist yet? Is there some "next D&D edition" backpack you put on? Tools you wear? You just ending all your campaigns waiting for the next edition to happen? What does it even mean that you're "gearing up" for 6e?

Probably involves a tin foil hat.

I’m on the opposite side from you (having come to actively dislike psionics over the years), but I certainly agree that it still needs work, and am glad they’re at least spending time, trying to do right by the class.

I love me some psionics, but the Mystic need more work, it's not even close to ready. Frankly, v3 was a big step back from v2, not forward. We ended up with melee builds that are absolute trash and ranged builds that were stupidly broken. Needs alot of work, I'll wait patiently for the final version whenever it comes out.

Is it going to be anything like Street Fighter: The Movie: The Video Game?

I had forgotten about that. But that is actually a good description of what I think it would be like: the rpg will favor things that happen in the movie (like giving the street fighters new moves in the game).

Given Hasbro's record of movies changing things related to the source material (aliens in Battleship, pretty much everything in Transformers, Cobra Commander works for Destro in G.I. Joe [at least the first one]), we should assume that the movie will have some changes.

In a world where Michael Bay directed it (and thankfully no evidence of this yet), fireball will be a cantrip (because you can't have too many), rangers will be like Airborne rangers (Bay likes military stuff), and the "big 4 classes" will be the sorcerer for fireballs and "chosen one", the hacker...I mean wizard, who won't zap anything, because hackers don't need to do that, the ranger (whose main ability will be to yell "bring the rain" and then explosions occur), and the cavalier (if we can't have car chases, there are going to be horse chases).
