No powers Psionic Ranger

That thread on psionic rangers reminded me I wanted some feedback on my own variant, designed for an all psionic world.

It doesn't gain manifesting ability, but rather a handful of psionic abilities. I'm not really happy with the final ability (it might be too powerful, especially for TWF), so some suggestions there would be especially welcome. :)

Psionic Ranger
This variant ranger loses all divine spellcasting ability. The swift tracker ability is replaced by the similiar swift stalker ability.

Psionic talent: At 4th level, the ranger becomes a psionic character if he is not already. He gains 2 bonus power points, and can thus take psionic feats.
Wild Telepathy: At 4th level, the ranger can converse telepathicaly with animals if he makes a DC 15 Wild Empathy check first. When conversing with his animal companion, this check is not necessary.
Foe sense (Su): Starting at 6th level, the ranger become aware of the presence and type of any favored enemy within 30 feet, as long as he holds psionic focus. At 10th level, he can pinpoint the location of all such favored enemies. At 14th level, he senses them as if with blindsight.
Swift Stalker: Beginning at 8th level, a ranger can move at his normal speed while hiding, moving silently, or following tracks, without taking the normal –5 penalty. He takes only a –10 penalty (instead of the normal –20) when moving at up to twice normal speed while using these skills. He gains these benefits only while focused.
Heighten Senses: At 11th level, the ranger can expend his psionic focus to momentarily boost one of his senses. He gains a +5 insight bonus to a single Listen, Spot or Search check. Using this ability more than once every minute causes a point of Wisdom damage each time, as the ranger's senses become overloaded.
Psionic Reflexes: At 16th level, the ranger can expend his psionic focus as an immediate action to gain a +4 insight bonus on a single Reflex save.
Enlightened Combat Style: At 18th level, the ranger is even better at his chosen combat style while focused. If that style is archery, he can make ranged attacks without provoking an attack of opportunity. If that style is two-weapon fighting, he no longer takes penalties for TWF.

Generally very cool, and well done.

This one is a bit problematic:

Just like the psionic Inquisitor feat, it's annoying to expend your focus for a skill check that you don't choose to make. You add a frequency nerf -- why not just reduce the bonus to +2 and leave it on whenever the guy is focused?

Most psionic combat feats require expenditure of focus, so I think it's cool that you give some benefits for keeping one's focus.

Cool.

That is rather strong, and far stronger for the TWF'er than for the Archer.

How about tying that to focus expenditure? Something like:

Enlightened Combat Style: At 18th level, the ranger is even better at his chosen combat style when he expends his focus (as a free action). If that style is archery, he can make ranged attacks for one full round which ignore cover and concealment (including full concealment) so long as the ranger knows his foe's location. If that style is two-weapon fighting, he takes no penalties for TWF for one full round.

Cheers, -- N

That seems fair enough. I liked the idea of a sudden, intense boost of the senses, but on the other hand your idea is certainly a lot simpler.

The problem here is that, then you must compare it to feats which require expenditure of focus, and those tend to be quite powerful. Still, if it effects a full attack action, that would probably be nifty enough.
