No running in the hall...

Hong is correct.

Yup.

Except for Zombies, who - whatever Skip says - can't Run, since there is no provision for running as a standard action, and the Start Full Round Action Standard Action specifically disallows the Run action, so there's no way for a Zombie to Run.

DM: The vampire flings open the coffin and jumps out, "Mwa-ha-ha-cugh....uoghf,"
Player: We run!
DM: "Slow down *Wheeze* I can't run"

MM p. 312: "A creature with no Constitution cannot tire and thus can run indefinitely without tiring (unless the creature's description says it cannot run)".

Looks like Skip's on the sauce again.

Fair enough, I'm looking at a 3.0 book.

That's just all those clove cigarettes catching up with him. It has nothing to do with a lack of con score.

I wonder how fast skip thinks a zombie using a standard action will go? He never says... Full speed maybe? Damn zombies are fast once they get going.

Did you also notice that you're allowed to partial charge during a surprise round according to skip now? His wording is that if all you get during a round is a standard action, then you can partial charge.

You mean "If you're capable of using only a standard action during your turn, you can charge as a standard action"?

I suspect he gets that from the PHB, where it says "If you are able to take only a standard action or a move action on your turn, you can still charge, but you are only allowed to move up to your speed (instead of up to double your speed). You can’t use this option unless you are restricted to taking only a standard action or move action on your turn."

You've always been able to Charge in the Surprise Round in 3.5. In fact, in the Surprise Round, you can even Ready a Charge - something you can't normally do unless you're a zombie!

Following a "Hey, what the?!" email to the Sage, the article has been revised - it now states that creatures without Con scores can run forever (see MM p312), unless the creature description prohibits running.

Just a note about the dignified aspect of vampires running.

In 2e we encountered a vampire who ran after us. In fact he was so fast that we had no chance of out running him. his running was described as fluid, like lightning. He even ran along beside us, taunting us and racing out ahead, demonstrating the futility of our attempts to flee.

I don't know how dignified it was, but it was cool (from a player's point of view anyway... )

I stand corrected. I think I was misremembering the zombie thing as being "no partial charges unless you're a zombie" rather than "no readying partial charges unless you're a zombie"...
