wow... the replies on this thread have taught me how biased we all are. im sure that most of these incranum and psion haters have never tried playing with them. its as though they seem threatened by anything 'arcane' that isnt magic.

anyway... does everyone really like the archivist or do people just sem to forget about it? just a thought because i dont think anyones mentioned the class yet!

I suspect most people just don't know enough about it. I don't have Heroes of Horror (I've heard it's good, but have no interest in a horror oriented campaign right now) and haven't heard much about the class either way.

OTOH, I don't have Tome of Magic, but I have heard a number of problems with Truename magic.

I'd guess that most of the people who know about it and have strong feelings about the class are in the "really like it" camp, not the "really hate it". If I were the only one voting, it'd be one of the last two or three to go, and might well be the survivor, because it fills a niche well, has mechanics that synergize very well with the flavor, and is just cool.

I had to vote for the Divine Mind, as its terrible, but I am happy to lose the Truelamer also. Terrible Terrible class.

I'm curious, what are people's problems with the ninja? To me it seems like one of the better ninja classes I've seen, decent skills, ability for high stealth, poison use...it may not be the strongest thing out there but I think it definately works for those who want to play a ninja

There, 3rd level godling. and an absurd ritual.

Yup. Pretty absurd.

Most absurd bits:
1. That there is a player who is rules-fetishist* enough to even serious consider pulling this off.
2. That there is a GM alive who wouldn't first laugh, then -- if #1 were true -- tell the player to shut up and sit down. Even the most linguine-spined GM should be able to pull this off.
3. That, even fiating the existence of #1 and #2, that there is a third person on the planet who wouldn't laugh at any serious discussion of this.
3a. Corrolary: #3 includes the rest of the players, who would, presumably, quietly mutter, "nutjobs" and form a gaming group that didn't include the player and GM in question.

*Yes, I say "fetish" because this goes beyond laywering and into some twisted and unholy act with the rules that is probably illegal in 34 states, and rightly so.

I suspect it's the same reason that Drow are often frowned on so much (especially as PCs). "Ninja" is the character class typically associated with the munchkin type players. Any class with that name has a strike against it (don't even think about trying to play a ninja drow weilding two weapons).

As a final action in the combat round, henchman number 3 dunks your head into a bucket of water, where you voluntarily fail your CON check to hold your breath. Please refer to the rules for drowning. When you fail your con check to hold your breath, reguardless of how many hit points you have or don't have, they reset to 0.

Ah the old proposed 'drowning loophole'.

Doesn't work, though.

Note the operand 'drops' in the drowning rules with regard to what happens to your hit points. If you're already below that level you don't go up in life because it's not then a drop.
