Non-Wizards Products

Oh, heck, pretty much any Penumbra-line product from Atlas
Ain't it the truth, though? I came to the conclusion some time back that if John Nephew thinks it's good enough to publish under the Penumbra imprint, I need to buy it.

I'll go you one better: i buy them even though i don't play any D20 System games, and can't stand D&D3E. And i'd generalize it to "if John Nephew thinks it's good enough to publish, and it's an RPG, i need to buy it." I bought Unknown Armies solely on the strength of it being an Atlas product (back when it was brand new, and i hadn't seen any reviews yet), and wasn't in the least bit disappointed.

And i still think that the Over the Edge Players' Survival Guide is the best tool for chargen in *any* system--i give it to all new players when they're making their first character, regardless of the system we're playing.

My takes:

- Encyclopaedia Arcane -
Chaos Magic first and foremost, and few others (Chronomancy, Elementalism, Constructs, Demonology, Necromancy, Battle Magic). They may not be very balanced but I think they have very good ideas as alternative rules for magic.

- Traps and Treachery -
A great book for the DM, less for players.

- Armies of the Abyss & Legions of Hell -
Best monsters collections if you like evil outsiders.
