D&D 4E Non-WotC publishers - 4ed, settings, and $5,000

5. Authorized to launch releases for sale beginning at Gen Con.

Actually, I think the launch release authorization starts August 1st, not later on in the month. Not much of a difference, but two weeks is still two weeks, especially if the company has a second product to go at Gen Con that builds on the first release two weeks previous.

Okay, at reading the last 3 posts here are some thoughts:

What catsclaw wrote was mostly right, except for the part flynn made the correction on, when all this news first broke.

Glyfair, do you have a link to that because I missed that news. I don't doubt you at all(I believe you 100%), but I do want to read what they had to say about it.

As far as taking it back to the drawing board(and this is why I want to read the new info because this may be pointless to say), they could have it ready by today as far as we know. It's therefore possible that the companies could have the gsl and rules sometime today or this week(depending on if it's mailed or electonically transferred and the mailing method used). I doubt this is the case, but I also doubt that they won't have it in the hands of the 3rd party publishers after march.

I definitely see them getting sometime in march. I don't see any way around that unless they saw something fatally wrong in the current version of the gsl. I suspect they'll fix up what's wrong and get it out not long after d&d experience.

Would a company that signed the NDA be able to mention that they received the GSL? Or is this information itself under NDA? (maybe to keep private who does/doesn't have the GSL).

There is no link to it. It was an email directly from WotC, and I'm not reposting it here.

I'm not 100% sure. In any case, I won't be saying anything. Sorry.

You think 4e will work with the old OGL? Sorry, but there is no way on earth that will happen. That's why they are creating a whole new license. What would make you think otherwise?

As I read his post, he's actually saying exactly what you're saying. :D

Could you hint if it sounded like doomsday news or not so bad news? Probably not, but I figure I'd try.

Well, its bad news for publishers that need the license as soon as possible to have product ready for Gencon. For me, it doesn't matter so much as I'm not really even sure if we're going to drop the $5K. All I can really say is that unforeseen things can happen especially with licenses as complicated as the GSL.

I get ya. Sounds like an unfortunate situation.
