Norannar - the train north

Tumakhunter

First Post
[This first part is not for Mor'Gan or Feldon.]

Yesterday you were approached by a representative of the Dawnfather, the local high priest of Lanscott, Bearer of the Eternal Sun-Lantern. It would seem that a very rare individual would be travelling to Morrakin by train first thing in the morning. It wasn't a lot of time to gather travelling companions - the messenger hesitated to use the word 'bodyguards' - for this austere individual, but the Dawnfather had decided that he would need more than the pair of rough-looking individuals he had with him. Hopefully, you will be able to provide our guest with aid in more social situations, as well, something his current companions are quite weak in. He explains that the individual in question is a Varnus* of Clan Dalzak, and as such, has needed to keep a low profile in Urne, as those of the Duergar race are not overly welcomed here.

"What name does this varnus go by," one of you asks.

"He is known to me only as Lightbringer," the messenger replies. "He is not without resources, and will ensure that you are paid handsomely. Unfortunately, all negotiations must be done with him." The messenger looks a little nervous at this, but sighs with relief as you agree to the task. You all have your own reasons for leaving this gods-forsaken city, and it's rare for anyone not of the duer race to see the insides of Morrakin. If this truly is a varnus of Dalzak, there's definitely money involved, and maybe a bit more, besides...

The next day, you arrive at the Train Station bright and early. The Train that you will be on is carved like one of those huge mythical beasts, a golden dragon. Just inside the trainyard, you see a very strange sight - a duergar in articulated plate armour, with sword and axe across his back. A great helm covers his head, and you notice what appears to be a chainmail veil strung across his face. Turning from his discussion with the conductor, he looks you up and down, before saying, "So you're who they sent me, are you? I am Varnus Dalzak, known to some as Lightbringer. We've been waiting for you."

He turns and calls out, "Mor'gan, Feldon! The others are here!"

[This is a good time to introduce yourselves, maybe with a brief description. Don't tell game-stats, just mention what others can see in front of them (so if you're a wizard that dresses like a fighter, tell them you look like a fighter).]

[* A varnus is the duergar equivalent of a samurai, a warrior of noble birth bonded to his Clan and Lord. They rarely wear much armour anymore, and other than their deknus, or sacred longsword, are often armed with the latest technological developments. The varnus themselves have become more rarely seen in the last two hundred years, and it is widely speculated that they are a dying breed.]

I am Rainer, a large human wearing a duster and derby. The backpack makes look a little like a wayward traveller, more than any potential body guard. I offer an honored salutation to one of such esteem.

[A tall obviously half-elven male walks up beside Varnus. He has medium long silver hair that hangs straight. As he looks at the new members they are struck by his piercing teal eyes. He wears a well-worn duster with a long sword on his left hip and a rifle over his shoulder]

Welcome,
we appreciate your help. I am Feldon, I will be your guide and hunter in times of need. I'm also known to grill a good boar on occasion. Now, once you get settled in if you have some loose coins, I'd be happy to join you in a game of cards :D

A young human of average height approches the Varnus. As he bows pistols can be seen strapped to his hips under his greatcoat.

"Tymin Thaal at your service sir."

*Tymin steps back and observes the others.*

"I am glad to make your acquaintance, Tymin Thaal, Rainer. It will be good to travel with people more used to the lands in the north than I. Feldon, where is Mor'Gan? He should meet our new friends." Varnus gestures to the train, "Anyway, the conductor will show you where you can put your things. We will meet in the dining car in an hour." You think he smiles, from the way his eyes crinkle around the edges, but it is difficult to tell with thw veil in place.

"This way, gentlemen," the conductor says in a dry voice, as he turns toward the entryway of the train. Inside, the train is quite well-lit, and obviously built for luxury. the wood trim of the car is expertly carved in dragon motifs, and a few tapestries hang showing golden dragons fighting red ones and other creatures in the War of Ascension, over five thousand years ago.

He leads you through two cars before reaching the sleeper area. "This car will be where you will be staying. Feldon and Mor'Gan also sleep here, but not the Varnus. The dining car is two cars further on. Breakfast is in one hour." With that, he turns and heads back the way he came.

Inside the room indicated as Feldon and Mor'Gans you see a large Duermek (half dwarf) seated at the table a pistol dissassembled in the midst of being cleaned. another is holstered at his thigh. Two rifles stand next to the table, part of Mor'Gans small arsenal. Noticing, the company he stands to meet them. You notice his height, heavy build and eyes black as obsidian. An aura of courage surrounds hims as he smiles warmly.

"Greetings, my name is Mor'Gan. You must be our newest compatriots. You are well met, well met indeed"

*Tymin steps forward and makes a short bow.*

"Tymin Thaal, sir. It is a pleasure to meet you."

*Tymin then moves on to an unused room to unload his things and tidy up for breakfast.*

Finding one of the unused sleeping quarters, Rainer stows his gear and prepares for breakfast. Feeling secure in the Varnus' presants he doffs his coat and armor and dresses in the most apropriate clean clothes he has.

Descriptions of everyone will be written down in his journal prior to eating and left in the 'pack. Biographers always screw up the small details.
