"Normal" familiars with templates?

Improved familiar feat allows you to have familiars from the normal familiar list, but with the celestial or fiendish template added. Presumably, this would also include axiomatic an anarchic (from MotP), as well as some other templates. And it's all very nice and flavourful.

The feat description says:

Improved familiars otherwise use the rules for regular familiars, with two exceptions: If the creature’s type is something other than animal, its type does not change; and improved familiars do not gain the ability to speak with other creatures of their kind (although many of them already have the ability to communicate).

Does this mean that, for example, a wizard with the fiendish cat familiar gains a +3 bonus to his Move Silently checks?

That's the way I'd read the feat description, but I thought I'd ask here for a second opinion
