Normal vs. Magical Energy?

Is there any distinction between energy damage from a magical source and damage from a non-magical source? I was leafing through some old 2e stuff, and there was a difference then, and it made me wonder about now.

I don't think there's any difference, but it's more difficult to look up a lack of a rule then it is to look up an actual rule =)

Magical energy == non-magical energy in 3E. There was one creature in the MM that made a reference to "non-magical fire," but that was errata'ed out.

There's a difference. Check out incorporeal creatures. They're immune to non-magical fire, cold and acid for instance.

Best place is under incorporeal status in the DMG.

Hmm, do you know which creature that was? It'd be a shame if was something incorporeal, cuz that would conflict with what Taren Seeker said :D

So is a Magic Immune Creature damaged by a Flaming Sword?
Yes, unless something else (fire immunity / resistance) stops the fire damage. Minotuars aside, magic aimmunity is simply unbeatable SR, and flaming swords are not subject to SR.
