North Carolina Game Day VI: January 29

Well, I posted it to the NC Game Day site this morning and it has not been approved yet. I guess that Rel and Morgenes are still away on vacation. The game will be from 3pm-8pm.

Ok - I've just signed up - for an Underroo Adventure - and a Planescape session of Baatazu Entertainment... CodeMonkey - can I pitch a request for a particular type of super? ;) (Gadgeteer - standard equipment: Bubble gum, duct tape, swiss army knife, and macgyver video collection... ;) And ray gun. Can't forget the ray gun.)
You most certainly may! I'm having to overhaul some of the characters from the last game and create a few more (in case we have more than four players), so I'll keep your gadgeteer in mind as I'm going through the creation process.

If by "still away on vacation" you mean "trying to sleep on the couch for a few minutes while his daughter watches Dora the Explorer and yells 'Backpack!' loudly every couple minutes", then yes, I'm on vacation. But I did manage to find time to approve your game and assign it a table.

Just for the record, I've reassigned a couple of other tables too. My general philosophy has been to spread thing out so that noise isn't too much of an annoyance. But I realized this morning that I'd spread some of the game into the area where the round tables are and those are reserved for RPGA games (unless one of you guys specifically wants a round table). Anyway, everybody is still in the same time slot they requested but I swapped some of the tables around a bit.

I gotta run for a bit but hopefully I'll be back online later today (and trying to be my Story Hours updated like I have been for a week!) so if anything crops up I should be able to address it then.

Thanks for the approval. I hope that you had a Merry Christmas.

We did indeed. I got lots of great stuff (no TactTiles though) and watching my daughter in her frenzy of present opening is always fun.

Hope everyone else here had a nice Christmas too and is planning a fun New Year!

I figured that a little "post-holiday bump" was in order. And if either BU or Codemonkey are in touch with Lola these days, would you make sure she's aware of the event? I don't know that I have a current phone number for her right now.

Here's a second bump, both to say that I hope everyone had a great holiday, and to say that I've made some Pre-gens, about which I'll be posting some details tonight, for my "Steading of the Hill giant chief." One of the three signees has contacted me with a character request, and I haven't heard from the other two, so I'm just posting here for fun and raising awareness of my game (Yes! I made it through the whole thing without using the word "pimping!" :D)

So if we have NC Gamers who haven't played AD&D in aeons and want to have a jaunt through memory lane, OR if you came to D&D later and want to see what the early days were like, jump on in, people! It's gonna be awesome!

Lola's in my weekly group now (which hasn't been weekly for about a month :)), and I'm pretty sure that she knows about it, but I'll ask her this week to make sure. If she can't make the session, I'll e-mail her or something.

The Underoo Avengers game still has two open seats, and I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I've been working on the adventure and characters at a pretty steady pace, so I might have some pregens to post in the next week or two. Hopefully I'll get to playtest the game as well, so that I'll be able to correct any balance or boredom issues.

This is going to be fun :-D

I promised some write-ups for my "Against the Giants" game, so to whet the players' appetites and spark some more interest:

TO THE STEADING OF THE HILL GIANT CHIEF

The raids have been fierce, the innocent dead a high toll, and the loss of families and property intolerable. And so a cry goes out from the local lord: The giants must be stopped! Great rewards to those who can bring me the head of the Hill Giant Chief and proclaim the menace truly ended!

The call for heroes to end the giant menace has had few takers, but some have accepted this chalice:

Silverleaf - born Gideon Lervan, this half-elf heard the call of The Shalm (Obad-Hai) some 20 summers ago, and has become a powerful Druid in service to nature, and the realms of Elves and Men. With his time for the rite of challenge for the title Druid of the Vesve Forest being near, this servant of the Green sees this mission as a chance to prove his readiness for the role...

Rath - this feisty dwarf learned his skill through indiscretions of youth against the advice of clan elders, and as a tunnel scout under the Lortmil mountains against monsters and drow, using his trusty Moradin-blessed Hammer to deal with his foes. His newest challenge promises him great wealth by the local lord should he succeed... (Rath has already been spoken for by one player)

Halbarad - This emerald-eyed stoic has been a ranger of the wood since he grew up in Oakvein in the Welkwood, south of the Gnarley Forest. His early experiences in the Wailing Halls (in the Welkwood) shaped him to be a harder man, when he lost the woman he loved and his best friend to a cabal of wraith-priests. When he joined the local lord, he rid the hill and countrysides of every orc and kobold he could find. Now it seems this has paved the way for the giants to raid the lands of men, though never this coordinated before! Halbarad intends to find out why, and put them to the sword if need be.

Brother Balto - Disciple of the Stone Storm Style, and Master of Green Dragons, claims to have been once a simple farmer, whose steading was overrun by evil beastmen years ago. Nursed to health by a Stone Giant living in the Kron Hills, the unusual giant taught him a style of martial thought and training he called the Storm of Stone, to heal his mind and body. He left and explored the world, only to return and find his master brutally slain by a fire giant raiding party. Balto has sworn to find his teacher’s murderers, and bring them justice. The trail leads to a series of coordinated Hill, Stone, Cloud, and Fire giant raids in the Duchy.

Arlanni - mysterious halfling woman who is more sly than a den of foxes, stealthier than a wraith, and deadly-cool under pressure. The other party members do not entirely trust her, certainly marking her a high-ranking guild thief, but the local lord has guaranteed her professionalism and willingness to the cause.

Arkayn - ruggedly handsome middle-aged magician currently serving as court wizard to the local lord, seems as at home with the local peasantry as in the royal court. While slightly complaintive and concerned with bodily harm, he understands the importance of the mission to rid the Duchy of the Giant threat, and will not shirk it. He hopes to finally gain enough approval to afford his plot of land in the Duchy and the remaining funds to found his tower of research and seclusion.

Aggro the Axe - Aggro Kilnfire is a mountain of 6 foot human power, though graying and growing older. He was an artisan and glazier first rate, whose pottery and wares were known clear to the city fo Greyhawk. After leaving his profession to join the army in Furyondy against the Horned Society, (when he acquired the name “the Axe”), he returned home after many adventures and campaigns and found a loving wife with which he settled down in the Duchy of Geoff and had children. He has heard the call of the local lord, and knows the threats the giants present. Unlike the usual assortment of orphans and upward-movers in adventuring bands, he is a retired adventurer, and he fights for his family and his home. And damnation to ANY giant who opposes him!

Sister Rebecca - possessed of an almost alien beauty, Sister Rebecca is a holy warrior of Tritherion, God of freedom and retribution. She has fought for freedom from oppresors of all stripes since her early teens, and now serves to sunder the bonds that the Giants threaten to yoke Elves and Men to. Her fire for liberty for all free peoples does not dim her compassion of those in pain or suffering, however.

Shall these heroes prove victorious? Will they die in vain? Or will they succeed far beyond even that...

It pains me not to be able to take up the mantle of Aggro the Axe, but I'm sure the person who does so will do him JUSTICE. ;)
