Cool responses. My DM is all about passing notes - and we have one enigmatic wizard (who I believe has a level of cleric - but I can't figure out whom his god is!) who is forever passing notes. I've also done the 'detect evil' note as well, especially if we are running with a bunch of NPCs.
Story:
I've been running a somewhat pampered priestess of Sune. During our last session we travelled a couple of days with a caravan and during the trip several of the horses were killed by boulder throwing giants. We were able to make it to a small village but the merchants asked the party to make a trip BACK to the capitol city to fetch large, sturdy wagon-carrying horses to replace the ones that were killed. They offered 15 gold/day, though they sent another group to a city of equal distance in order to make a "race" out of it, otherwise the party might have dallied. My PC decided she was "no horse-fetcher" and that the risk of death on the dangerous road outweighed the gold offered. She stayed in the village while the rest of the party headed back to the capitol city, often at a forced march. One of the PCs died along the way - and when the group returned they had a little funeral in the village which my PC attended. Afterwards she admonished the wizard (the smartest member of the group and de facto leader) for being a greedy fool. Twas' quite humorous.
Granted I had to sit out a few encounters in this example but I role-played my character, and the DM and I are going over what happened in the village (my PC's downtime) by email...so I don't feel left out.
