Q: 4th edition.
A: As you heard here last year, D&D is doing so well, it's the most popular it's ever been, all RPGs evolve and change. Maybe someday, but right now the success, how much fans love it, how much we love it, we'll not monkey with it just for the hell of it. We'll give you 1-2 years warning. We'll change it if the game needs it. We won't spring it on you.
Think that'll calm down the doomsayers a bit?

A: They are all complexly (re-worked) collected. You may not recognize some of them (some been re-named).
Reminds me a bit of those 3.5 announcements. It's just a collection with inbuilt corrected errata, they're just re-worked and half of them have new names :D.

I heard Greedo shoots first in this version. Hopefully, they'll fix that in the next revision.

Some of this stuff sounds cool, like:

Like D&D for dummies: another opportunity project. Three Dragon Ante: is the card game that your characters can be playing inside the D&D world at a tavern. You can play in the real world as well. It's like poker, you have gold pieces that you are stealing back and forth (game of chance - not a collectible card game - the entire deck is in the box). Rob Haintzo (sp?) designed the game.

Big book: Tome of Magic, Pact Magic, Shadow Magic, True Name Magic. We thought it was time to introduce some new magics systems (not to replace current like psionics). Dave Noonan, Matt Cernat, a couple freelancers. Pact Magic: There are these sort of dead beings lost in the multiverse (not tied into one plane) - they can only manifest through pacts, you take the being into you, gain supernatural abilities and physical characteristics. Shadow magic is tied very closely to the plane of shadow - it feels a little bit darker than the others. True Name magic was inspired by literature, but it evolved past that, the utterances of certain words in the cosmos give your character control over things (transform, govern).

Q: Introduce a lot of new things
A: Some stuff will end up in updated SRD, some will not.

Come now, Darkness, the doomsayers always think that WotC lies to us all the time!!! :D I would hope that this will calm down the 4E fervor that spreads like wildfire around here sometimes. I don't think it will, but there's always hope.

I see the doomsayers saying that that statement was the warning and that in 2 years there will be a 4th edition to mark what? What happens is two years, the 40th anniversary. ;)

Bet you that statement gets taken out-of-context. :D

Oh lord...I totally forgot about the 40th anniversary! You can bet that's exactly where the doomsayers are going to go with that! That'll ramp up the 4E prediction threads up even more!
