Yes, we all know this is illegal. However, in the real world this sort of thing goes on. One of the largest MUDs on the Internet has copyrighted material from the most popular fantasy settings/novels. You can fight Drizzt Do' Urden and Artemis Entreri, Gandalf is in there...Excalibur..etc.

I am not saying it is legal or right/wrong. I am merely stating that if it is free, it usually goes unnoticed. If WOTC sues, fine, it is their property. However, there is a track record in game history of this sort of thing going on without consequence.

P.S. - Sorry Ashtal I did not know of those rules.

I'm not a lawyer, but the guys that said WotC will probably sue could be right if it (Ruins of Undermountain) gets distributed.

WotC has to defend its trademarks, copyrights, etc...if they don't they can lose them...blah blah blah.... :D

And regarding the OGL/OGC and NWN, even OGC stuff cannot be legally used with NWN because the d20/OGL does NOT cover software.

So- basically what it looks like is that you can create whatever you want for your own use, but if you want to distribute anything, it has to be 100% original. No IP stuff, no copyright stuff, no OGC stuff.

just my thoughts......

Yep, you had to know that as soon as something genuinely interesting came along, the lawyers would have to descend like a pack of ravenous hyenas. When are people going to realize that you can't stop this stuff. You can't, you can't, you can't. To quote T.S.E. 'This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper'. A variation would be. 'This is the way the imagination ends, not with a bang, but a lawyer'. *sigh*

Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer, if you want to know for sure, go to court. If you want a bit more certainty, ask a lawyer.

I'm not so sure that it's still the case that companies have to protect their IP or risk loosing their IP. I came across that some place when looking into some copyright issues a few months back, but to be frank, i don't really want to search all day again to find it...

Also, discussing it wasn't stricktly forbidden, just distributing it through these boards was. That's Morrus's right, and we'll accept that infinite wisdom...

But, don't forget, if there's no mind flayer in NWN, it won't be in the download section of this board either. No using statistics from D&D or the SRD or any OGL source. To be perfectly honest, i doubt that there will be anything interesting in this Vault at this rate...

But anyhow... The above screenshot is amazing!

Oh, I did forget to mention that there is an interesting property to some images, that if you right click on them and view image, it actually tells you where it came from. Not that anyone would want to do that, of course.

I just did that to prove a point, to see just how devoted to censorship you were. You'll have to forgive me, but I spent most of the 70s in the SDS and the Weathermen, and I get cranky when someone tells me I can't even look at a *link*.
