[Nov] What are you reading?

Those are fun little books -- I wish they would get around to writing another one.
Their webpage says the next one is Point of Sighs, and it sound like they're working on it right now. Not sure, though.

Right now, reading The High Lord, (The Black Magician Trilogy, Book 3)
by Trudi Canavan. Darn fine series.

After that, probably Pratchett's Going Postal or Cook's The Garrett Files

I'm in the middle of Alastair Reynolds "Revelation Space" and although I'm not a big SF fan (Dune and Simmons Hyperion & Endymion Books are pretty much it...oh and Octavia Butler) I'm really enjoying this. I hope Chasm and Redemption Ark are as good. I've been trying to get through Henry Millers "Sexus"...but after every hundred pages I find it so tedious. I've only read a few of Millers novels, but I really want to read all his books for some reason....

I was in the book store the other day and I started reading "Stevenson Under The Palm Trees" (I think that's the title) and it just seemed really nice and fun...so I think that'll be next.

If anybody else has read Alastair Reynolds other novels, let me know if they are worth it.

I'm reading Maps of the Ancient Sea-Kings by Charles Hapgood, and hope to soon be reading The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard, if my library's ILL department comes through. I've also got a few books checked out that I probably won't actually end up reading: Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover, The Green and the Gray by Timothy Zahn, and Dead Girls by Richard Calder. I'm not actually sure what I will be reading, other than a few Junie B. Jones books to my 6-yo daughter. I think I'm making another library trip tonight, though; I'll look into something else... maybe What If? 2; I own the first one I liked it so much.

Just finished Heretic (Cromwell) and Hell's Faire (Ringo - it sucked) this weekend. Now I'm reading Grantville Gazette (ed. Flint) and should read Genesis (Anderson) before the weekend. Time of the Butterflies (Alvarez) comes soon too, but after that I'm sort of torn as to what comes next. I have a huge stack of Roman themed nonfic and three shelves worth of science fiction unread, which means that I'll probably end up buying art books and letting the rest collect dust until I go through another reading spurt.

I just finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, a mystery written in the first-person by an autistic protagonist. Very compelling. Now I'm reading Tuff, a novel about a Queens thug and his misadventures. For some reason I've been on a mimetic fiction kick.

Had to travel to a manufacturing plant two states away for work last week, so I finally had a chance to finish listening to the unabridged audiobook version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I also listened to Full Blast, a mystery by Janet Evanovich and Charlotte Hughes. I got a chance to start Playing with Fire by Peter Robinson, but I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to listen to the rest of it.

I'd like to pick up another one of Guy Gavriel Kay's books soon, but I haven't figured out which one. I have read Tigana and Sailing to Sarantium and both were excellent. Any recommendations? If the sequel to Sailing to Sarantium is at all similar in quality it is probably a great read.

Other than that, I finished "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" by Michael Chabon recently. Another excellent book.

Well, if you haven't finished the Sarantine Mosaic, definitely read the sequel!

After that, I don't know if I can choose between A Song for Arbonne and The Lions of Al-Rassan (both very good) and then there's the Fionavar Tapestry (which I do like, but some don't).

I'm also reading, online and for free, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, an ancient Chinese epic. More warring, backstabbing, and politicking than you can shake a stick at. It's great stuff. (www.threekingdoms.com)

My favourite of his books is The Lions of Al-Rassan, but they are all quite good. Kay is one of the better writers active at the moment. :)
