I like the thug and think it fills a often missed niche too.
As DMs, I think we all put a lot of thought in our NPCs that the PCs come up against that they rarely even know about. I personally use it to decide appropriate classes, equipment and stratagy. Their backround is my deciding factor on whether to use a PC class or and NPC class.
I also don't think we should require DMs to use a specific template. What if we had a write-up for DMS. Helpful advice, stuff we use, ways that we think, resons for this or that, just to share our experience with others DMs on reasons why we do stuff a paticular way.
It could be a new thread for DMs. How I do.... or What if.....
It could have catagories, and each DM could post a blurb on they deal with or come up with specific things, like when do you choose to use an PC class over an NPC class or What are the important factors you use when figuring challenge rating for monsters to pit against your players.
Just my thouhts....
