I really like the idea of the Eberron Artificer that retains the essence from magical items to basically recycle them into new items. I, however, do not think currently bringing them fully in would be the best way to go.
Would the Retain Essence ability of the Artificer be good as a feat with the prerequsite that you have to have 2 item creation feats, and be a 5th level caster to take it. Maybe even have a craft skill requirement.
