Number of disks for Mass Effect (original)

So, I'm a little miffed that the "new" copy of Mass Effect that I bought off of an Amazon seller (not Amazon itself) is obviously not new. The seal was broken, the manual is a tad wrinkled like it came in contact with some moisture, and the DVD itself has some slight wear scratches on it.

Now, I could live with this as long as the game plays (though I will probably ask for a partial refund for the incorrect listing). It's in good condition for a used game. What really worries me is that the disk in the package says "Disk 1" and it looks like this package can hold more than one disk.

I've heard people on EN World talk about Mass Effect before. Can anyone who played it on PC DVD tell me whether it should have come with one or two disks?

Should I be a little miffed or a lot miffed?

European versions have two discs. The second one holds extra language files. You should therefore be a little miffed, unless you bought it intending to play in Czech.

Thanks! I'll probably install it to make sure that it works and that the key number they gave me hasn't been activated too many times (if they're still enforcing that) then ask for a partial refund since it's not a new game.

It really doesn't look like it's in bad condition - but I could've bought it cheaper from a bunch of other sellers who were not advertising their copies as "new".

A little miffed, my copy only has one disc I did get it new and no one else has ever touched it.

If you install the game and it never asks for another disc you're good.

I'm installing it now. I didn't want to install it at first if there was a chance I'd need to return it since I had heard that the game used some sort of DRM that would only allow you to install it so many times, and I didn't want to take away one of those from this game if I wasn't going to keep it. Then I read that they released something to legally remove that restriction from Mass Effect, so I didn't feel as bad about installing it.

I am going to keep it at this point. The seller agreed to give me a few dollars back (though I haven't seen them yet).

I also ordered the expansion pack for Dragon Age at the same time, and that's going to arrive on Monday according to the package tracking, so I'm probably not going to rev up Mass Effect just yet, only installing it to make sure it's okay. Expansion for a game I loved to death (and haven't stopped playing, though I finished it over a month ago) trumps new game.

This is an older PC with a small HDD, so I uninstalled the game after I was done playing it to make space and when I did so it gave a message saying that an install was returned. So if you do uninstall it properly you'll be good.

Oh, really? That's interesting! I would've thought that if they were doing it that way they'd only let you install one copy at a time.

I believe that's how it was, for me anyway (been about a year now). I know The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena had a DRM scheme like you described (makes me want to pirate it, despite the fact I actually bought the game).
