[NWN] Any decent Server Vaults

Thanee

First Post
So far I've only been playing local vault, because I highly dislike the fact, that I can only play my server vault character on a single server.

Of course, the server vault system offers other advantages, because you should have a better balance amongst the characters encountered there.

So, has anyone tried some of the servers out there who offer only server vaults and could recommend one or two for a more continuing play (i.e. more like persistent worlds, not modules, that are just one evening worth)?

I've yet to find a single persistant world worth playing. I really can't see the point in them.

The reason I bought NWN was to get away from the 'persistant' part of games like Everquest.

I play a server vault character with Lazybones for DM'd modules, I imagine that the only sort of server vault games I'll ever play.

In fact organised scheduled games are the only online NWN I will play since most of the drop in games are pointless, you might as well be playing single player.

I've not finished the single player game yet and thats currently 5th place on my use of NWN.

1st - Online organised games via Neverwinterconnections.
2nd - Writing my own module (nearly ready).
3rd - Single player campaign (somewhere in chapter 2).
4th - Cutting my own throat with the "Play CD".
5th - Resorting to using Gamespy to find a game.

Yep, a persistant world server would need to be HUGE to offer enough non-repetitive enjoyment.

That's my big problem with server vaults, you are limited to either a one-shot adventure or the same quests all over again. But maybe there is something out there, which changes my view, so therefore I asked! I just don't like to create a new character for every game. :)

As I said, right now I'm only playing local vault characters within a lot of different modules, trying to find decent roleplaying parties (which is possible, fortunately, I have met a lot of fine folks out there already) and having some fun.

Yeah it should be

http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/

But they have been having a lot of downtime recently some problems with the web-server that they are sorting out.

Problem I find with Gamespy is dropping into games you find your the wrong level or in the wrong place most of the time. And if you stay in the chat room you need a really good firewall since it seem to be used by hackers to get IP numbers. I would say my firewall fires off an alert every 2 seconds or so while in Gamespy.

Thanks! :)

Yeah, it surely takes a little practice to find a decent game (after connect you can see the levels of the people in there, so there's at least something to base a judgement on), but it's not impossible!

Ongoing scheduled campaigns are the way to go, IMHO. I'm running two regular weekly games at NWC, and they have proven to be all that I was looking for in terms of playing D&D online. Once completed my four-module campaign will take players from 1st to around 10th level over the course of about two months of weekly sessions. At the moment, my server vault has over 100 characters ranging from 1st to 6th level, belonging to the many players who have visited my games.

My suggestion would be to find a group you enjoy, and a regular time you can all play, and go from there. That's the advantage that NWC and other such sites offer, if you don't already have a group of friends to play with already.

I registered to NWC yesterday, so will give it a try soon. Does look very promising for sure!

It's not that I don't have friends to play with (I'm playing the single player campaign online with one of them), but I also like to play with others over the net, that's part of the fun there, to meet new people!
