Thanee (and others) -
have you SEEN the demos of the world editor?

It looked ridiculously simple.
You just choose the tiles from a palette and plop them on the grid.

A Dungeon could be made in about 10 minutes VERY easily.

Imagine what it would be like to run Heavy G's Dungeon of the Fire Opal" and actually SEE the walls, and line of sights, and not be utterly reliant on the DM to describe everything and do all that work while running it.

A picture truly is worth a thousand words, and I, for one, am VERY hopeful that NWN may be a giant leap forward in gaming.

Concerned ... Need Assurance

When I first heard what Neverwinter Night is going to be about, I want to get it. This will be an online RPG with tools for Dungeon Master to host their own online game with other players.

It's not a MMORPG, nor do we have to pay-to-play. (Which is why I shy away from such games as EverQuest, Asheron's Call, Ultima Online, etc.)

But now after everything has been resolved and Infogrames will publish this BioWare-produced game, I'm afraid that Infogrames -- who has an agenda of creating a MMORPG with the newly-acquired electronics right by Hasbro and WotC -- may request or order BioWare to change the premise of this product.

Simple, yes, but also very powerful. I can hardly believe what the designers are saying you can do with the toolset and how easy it is to do it.

A dungeon in 10 minutes, yes, and in less than a couple hours, a living, breathing town, where you can just sit and watch the NPCs do their thing. Tres cool!

the project is waaay past the time where the premise can be changed. so i wouldn't worry.

the editor is going to be amazing, and they are keeping some gaps in the editor so that when the expansion comes out you'll be able to do EVEN MORE!

some things i've noticed from the x number of years i've followed the development of this game . . . from some of the E3 and gencon videos i've seen on the net, there seems to be a 'disarm' and a 'weapon grip' type skill. so i guess they have been playing with it all, and thought for a computer game they should just add these two skils instead of a str opposed roll. maybe by the time the game is done, it'll be back to what we are familiar with.

additionally, like the BG games, hide and move silently are algamated into one "stealth" skill. with how this is a true 3d game, and the scripting seems amazing (not to mention a difference between a 'listen' check and a 'spot' check), i have no clue why they did it this way.

convienence?

but still, i'm too chicken (or busy) to put in an application for 'a land far away' and don't even know if they are accepting applications anymore . . . but again, if i'm too busy for the application, then maybe i'll be too busy for the game, on a regular basis.

seems like a great game though,
makes me swell with canadian pride too.

and as great as it's going to be out of the box, the real shelf life comes from the fans and the Nwn community. (some of the early hack packs i've seen some people work on look really professional)

and i guess because of my crazy hours, i'd love to play or DM for any of you guys once in a while. and that invitation is completely open.

NWN and Morrowind. Both are on my shopping list.

Morrowind also has a dead simple editor. As someone said, "Never before has it been so easy for anyone to design a crappy level". :) (Meaning, it's easy to do, but it takes skill to actually make something fun to play)

ALFA has recently done a huge player purge. They emailed all players who were initially accepted, and asked them to confirm their spot in the game. As a result, they went from 787 players in their database down to 346 players. So now there are alot of new openings for applications.

Morrowind was supposed to be what I played while I waited for NWN. Seeing as they'll likely both be out about the same time, bye-bye Morrowind.

NWN was the reason a friend and I even thought of looking at 3E. When the CharGen demo came out, we saw the 3E looked really cool. We have been playing 3E since it was released. Now that all seems well with NWNs, we can hope that it will be released before the early May date that Amazon had listed (as of last week).

Also, I'm moving to Santa Monica, CA in about 4 months and leaving all my friends behind, including my best friend from high school who's been my best friend (excluding my wife) for about... er... 20 years now.

Hopefully, NWN will allow us to still get together now and then to play D&D.
