AAAARRGGGHHHH... scripting, quests, journals, errors....

:D Anyway, I just "finished" (I suspect it'll never be truly "done") my mondo-adventure that links all of my existing one-shot modules around a central area with a tavern. Man, adding detailed conversations and quests really adds a lot to the complexity of a module! Building the tavern and its occupants took far longer than your average multi-area dungeon. In creating three NPCs, each with a quest and a store, I think I went through about 150 lines of conversation and maybe 30 scripts. I guess it gets easier with practice, but I can't imagine those folks who want to create an entire TOWN populated with NPCs...

I have to playtest and see if my computer can handle a mod with 15 areas (some 16x16 or greater), hundreds of encounters, dozens of custom monsters and NPCs, three quests (actually, only two can be completed in the current version), five stores, and several NPCs for the DM to spawn in and possess.

Look for an announcement tomorrow morning seeking players to test this adventure/monstrosity. I'll probably run it tomorrow night (fiancee's out of town on business... gotta get my play in while I can :)).

Towns and inns are by far the most time consuming aspect. But it does get easier and faster.

Keep in mind that the only areas that will be fully loaded are the ones players are in. So assume maybe the inn and one or two other areas might be active, especially if you keep the six person limit.

Are you going to use server characters or local ones? I'd definitely be interested in playtesting, but I want to raise Willo's level if you're using local ones - my copy of the character is only 1st level.

Greetings!

I will be running my next game on Wednesday, July 3, at 7:00 p.m. Pacific time. The game is entitled "The Crossroads" and is a compilation of nearly all of the work I've done thus far on the NWN Toolset (see my last post for more details about the size of this project). The game should take two hours or more to play through (heck, I'll leave it up all the way till 11 p.m. if need be ;)) but people can come and go if they wish. The game should be entirely self-sufficient, but I may drop in and out as DM to monitor things, possess NPCs, spawn monsters, etc.

Folks who have played one of my games before will find all of those earlier modules included as areas you can visit. Don't worry, there will still be areas for you to visit that you haven't seen before. I am pushing a little, to see what my brand spanking new Dell P4 machine can handle, so please be patient if the server hangs or crashes (if it does crash, we'll just continue from the last save). I haven't had any problems so far, even with large areas and full parties, but you never can tell.

(time to see if that $50/month DSL line can hack it!)

I host my games in the "Role-Play" section of the matching service. I am not password-locking the game so anyone can drop in if they wish. Click on the "Role-Play" option in the category box in the upper left part of the matching service screen to find my game.

Server name: [EN] Lazybones

Module name: The Crossroads

Game type: server characters (so unless you've played with me before, you'll need to create a new 1st level character, or choose one of the defaults, upon entering). Of the four adventures that make up this module, three are for 1st-2nd level characters and one is for 3-4th level characters (don't worry, the areas will be clearly labeled in play). Characters who start at 1st level should be able to level up to at least level 4 if they play well and don't die too often :).

Enforce Legal Characters: on
Item Level Restrictions: off

Max players: 8 (I thought about trying 12, but after reading LightPhoenix's post I think I'll take small steps).

Game style: cooperative role-playing. I'm not going to start with a default inclusive party, but strongly encourage the players to role-play forming a party. This means that there can be more than one party in the game at once, pursuing different goals (I'm really trying to test the limits of my server, here). Folks who run off alone will be encouraged to join a party (if necessary, I can use my DM powers to teleport everyone to the same location, but I'd prefer to avoid doing that).

I've tested the module several times, but I know there's bound to be bugs I haven't found. Consider this a "beta."

RSVPs aren't necessary but feel free to reply if you are interested. Thanks and I look forward to seeing ENWorlders online!

Hey all!

Just a quick addendum to my earlier post: I've started advertising my games on www.neverwinterconnections.com; they've got a great matching service with a lot of features. Although I'm not yet password-locking my games, I might have to start if the games fill up ahead of time (I want to give ENWorlders first dibs to all my games, but I also want to be fair to those who sign up in advance). If the site flourishes, it could be a great service for those seeking a "regular" game. It can even send you alerts whenever your favorite DM is running a game. Anyway, check out the site, and feel free to sign up for my game (it's starting to fill up!).

Thanks, LB

That was the greatest!

I just got back from your game and I enjoyed it to no end. Good job on the Module, as well as your server. No crashes is always a plus, ;)

I'm really looking forward to the next game, thanks again!

Yawn--it's late, but I just had to drop in and comment on the game I just finished. It was GREAT--got an excellent group of players, fine roleplayers all (including a few folks from here). I advertised on neverwinterconnections.com and got a full eight slots filled. I think I'm going to have to use their service from now on, and encourage my friends here to log on and grab a slot to keep people from being unfairly frozen out.

Anyway, we played for nearly three hours, and they cleared out a swamp, explored an old ruin, and cleared out two dungeon levels. Everyone reached 3-4th level and we're going to continue next week right where we left off. The game ran flawlessly (for me, anyway; a few of the players had sound and movement glitches).

I may run the game again this weekend for a new group of players; keep posted for details.

Best NWN experience so far...

Now I have to go fix the glitches that came out during play... :)
